Who's waiting for the 3090 and which brand are you getting?

Working from home has its benefits I guess, I save a lot of money on fuel for one and unnecessary spending.
Purchase List form April till present :
PlayStation 5 + Additional Controller and Spiderman
Asus ROG PG35VQ - Gaming Monitor.
Secetlab Gaming Chair
Sonos Arc Soundbar
Asus 3090 Strix OC

I will post photos of my gaming Room when my card gets here, I'm loving this forum as it makes the wait easier and learning how to find "loopholes" with HMRC LOL.

LG need to update the C9 OLED as I have heard these cards have been having issues with them, I cant wait to play RDR2 and Death Stranding in 4k 100+fps in 65 inch OLED glory.

970 ? wow its going to be a massive jump for you, you have a 4k tv right ? I started with ASUS 970 then went to Msi 1080 Gaming and then MSI 2080ti Gaming X trio.

Yeah TV I am hoping to use it on too. if HDTV test is to be believed, LG are fast tracking a fix for the C9 first and CX at later date apparently. According to him, some service centres already have the fix for C9, but in the comment section people have not been able to get the fix when they do call. Hopefully its mostly information not filtered down to Service Centre agents more then anything as he does generally seem to know plenty of contacts.

For now, if card comes prior to the fix, will go without G-Sync and try to lock to 120hz 4k (less demanding / settings tweaked) or 120hz 1440p I imagine.

I started with a 970 and made the jump to a 2080ti and upgraded my monitor to a x34p. I then sold the 2080ti as soon as the 30xx series hype train was in full effect. Glad I kept my 970 now as it’s proving its worth while I wait for my 3090 rog strix!

It was terrible yet sold fine shrug. Nah for me I would get 3080 if I could, I can't in reasonable time and want to crack on with gaming and do not care about the extra cost. I imagine plenty of other 3090 buyers are similar. If A) money is tight, B) you will get buyers remorse or C) are not aware of the small delta in performance, then move on its that simple. If none of its an issue then crack on I say. Personally I would get 3080, but would be at back of a Queue which is going back god knows how long and have crap load of time off to game with so meh, the slight extra cost of 3090 is largely irrelevant for me.

I imagine anyone who can buy £500 cup holders without a thought in a Porsche has money to burn and is usually not generally stupid if they got themselves there ;)

That kind of makes my point. You have been manoeuvred in to a place where you think a £1600-£1800 GPU is what you need to buy by creating hype and shortages.

The 2080ti didnt sell fine at all. This is why the 3080 is in such demand. AMD saved the 2000 series by basically having nothing to offer.

To make things worse what is likely to happen (especially if AMD can compete) is that in a few months time there will be a 3080ti/super which is 6-8% faster. That 3090 chip is ripe for binning and cutting down. As yields increase there will be plenty of "almost" 3090 chips.

Imagine what a custom PCB 3080 super with higher clock and power limit will do to a 3090. 9xxx cores and 12GB 384bit. The slot is wide open between the 3080 and 3090. This is the 780 and 780Ti all over again...

Personally i can think of plenty of things to buy with £900-£1200. None of those things are 5 extra frames i cannot even see or perceive. That is almost the cost of the LG38 3840x1600 monitor i just bought. Or an 55" OLED TV for the gaming room... People need more imagination if they cant work out what to spend the difference on...

Just move on mate. Making a point which to me is largely irrelevant. What a few days extra effort at work, fine with cash so meh, do not care rather get on with gaming, imagine others are largely the same. You don't seem to realise for some, the premium to just get on with things outweighs the small performance delta.

Of course there will be something new and shiney around the corner, with everything, you should not get this, nor even the 3080 even if you cannot accept that there will be Ti models for similar performance / cheaper , or in a few years something much faster entirely.

Good for you, go enjoy spending your money elsewhere with your "imagination". Some may think your an nuts (I don't) spending that much on the LG panel monitor when you could spend half the price for a solid panel then use your "imagination" elsewhere, more so when in a few years its price will drop considerably. Horses for courses.

Premium to get on with things?

The 3090 has almost zero stock and wont be any different going forward. At this point any 3080 will be easier to buy and "get on with things"

If the card had 25% more FPS then it could be argued that its worth a premium and considered an upgrade. But it doesnt and it performs like a typical overclocked card. The card should not exisit and the fact it does is because there are enough fools to give nvidia the money to justify it. I should know since we make products to target these fools and in our marketing and sales meetings. We call people who buy these type of products exactly that "fools" The Nvidia product is worse though because the Halo product will be obsolete within 24 months at most. GPU's do not age well. They are not luxury products. They are not collectable. They become E-waste.

I have to hand it to Nvidias marketing department. They know how to hook those whales. When they launched the Titan even their own people said nobody would ever buy it....

I have a long list of luxury items which most people will never own. So if im scratching my head wondering why someone would buy it.... that should tell you everything you need to know.

Can't speak for others it it's quiet simple, i got on and brought the 3090 early(ish), infrormed by etailor I got a relatively early order in. I have would be tail end of a 3080 queue if I order one which would be much longer.

Anyways, you seem very intelligent. As your saying those buying 3090s are fools, so you trying to convince us is a foolish endeavour. Suggest you save your breath and go intelligently buy all the luxury items you want :)

I have an ASUS Strix OC 3090 coming.

It will last me 4 years at least.

In 2 years time the mid range 4000 series will make the 3090 look 50% of its speed and 25% of its value. Next gen consoles will push up graphics standards and require much faster GPU's over the next few years.

Dont justify this purchase with "it will last me 4 years" kind of mentality.

Unless you are taking Radox's mentality it will only lead to buyers remorse.

Ill have less buyers remorse with the 3090 considering maxed out 4k games right now can use over 11GB Ram (Horizon Zero Dawn) Much more future proofed with a 3090 over a 10GB 3080 for 4k gaming. Even 2 out of 3 of AMDs new cards have over 10GB Ram.

If you cant tell the difference between "allocated" Vram and "used Vram" you dont have much business buying any high end GPU.

Impatience has certainly cost me plenty of money over the years. This time i at least have a 1080ti to hold me over.

I've got cash to spare so I will teat myself.
£1,700 is not much these days.
People spend that on a mobile phone!

I have a Titan Xp as backup :)

And then with VR too, even more VRAM will be required. The gap between 3090 and 3080 will become larger still in high resolution VR (G2, Pimax etc). This, plus wanting a card soon (got my order in early for the Trio) rather than being thousands behind for a 3080 Trio means the cost is worth it. Then there's the fact I will also use it for work too, where 10GB is not enough a lot of the time (Blender and AfterEffects).

10GB is plenty if you play in 1080p or 1440.

I wouldn't buy a 3090 if I player in either of them resolutions.

One retailer is halfway through the preorders for the Trio with only 2 deliveries. EVGA has thousands of cards coming in a single delivery and normal stock expected by end of october. These things are mass produced by the thousands.

Please dont kid yourself that you are future proofing anything. The 4080 will be 30-50% faster and likely 50% of the price. GPU's come out like clockwork in 18-24 months time.

Remember the 3090 still SUCKS at ray tracing!

Next gen console releases don't happen very often and when they do they are playing catch up with PCs, not the other way round.

I have every intension of getting a couple of 3090s and SLIing them for a bit of fun and really don't care what they are worth in a couple of years.

At the moment I am roughing it a bit with a pair of RTX Titans in SLI and a Titan Volta for PhysX.:p

wow ... what a thread.. anyways all crying 3090 purchasers are fools .. mind your own business it's their money and for all you know they require more than 10GB VRAM ... or just want the fastest card and don't update every new shiney comes out so keeping it for a good few years.

It's pretty rude to justify what you think is right at the people buying them, they may have their reasons. Yes for gaming for now the 3080 with 10GB will do, but reality is as we all know for future 4k+ resolutions and new games with high textures the 10GB will not be enough but if you are a 1440p and 1440p Ultrawide user the 10GB will be fine for many years, by that time the card will not be fast enough before VRAM becomes an issue.

Guys we are all mad about what Nvidia has done to some point and reality is in most cases if the 3080 20GB was available I bet you most people using a 3090 for gaming only would have got that.. Now lets be honest Nvidia are going to charge a premium for the 20GB model and clearly not coming out just yet , they need to milk the 3090 sales first. But lets hope it appears soon, I keep looking at the 3080 and 3090 and honestly getting fed up of both cards they both have their issues, Nvidia did that deliberately .. So people that are fed up to some point thought sod it 3090 and wont upgrade for a few years and pay the Nvidia tax this time round.

But also lets wait and see what AMD brings out soon to the GPU area and then we can all decide what was really best value... depending on our needs NOT wants but real use needs.

Lol. Thats not how it works at all.

Most PC games are Ports which are upscaled. Not PC games downscaled to consoles. Have a look at Warzone MW. It looks like **** on PC.... No matter how much you turn it up.

Also Nvidia just abandoned SLI officially.
