AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

AMD have said several times they are gunning for the high end so if they don't announce a big part it would already be a disaster. Your arguments suggest that you haven't been reading what AMD themselves have actually stated.

Yes it is all based on estimates but we know higher clocks are possible, we know RT is coming and we know there are more CUs than the 5700XT had already. With 50% perf/watt then performance will absolutely go up and this is only the stuff we know already.

I am not saying I expect it to beat the 3080 or 3090 because honestly I don't know but I would love to see it competing at that level.

i tend to try and take performance claims with a grain of salt, especially when they are being made about high end gpu's amd did this before with the polaris launch remember.

and we all would like amd to be competing at the high level as hopefully it would sort out the silliness that is "exchange rate fluctuations".

Um...XSX demos, PS5 demos and specifically the XSX Gears 5 demo showing it outperform the PC version with identical settings and the new RDNA 2 features. Plus AMD's claims of +50% performance per watt over RDNA 1 and we already know what RDNA 1 can do because of the 5700XT. Don't forget Nvidia's surprising (but still pure marketing) slash of MSRP for Ampere.

So yeah, that's quite a few "real hints" of Big Navi's performance.

yes because console numbers transfer clock to clock to the pc. until i see actual card details il still be sceptical of what people are claiming.

The hype train? It's free. It'll take you as far and fast as you want to go!

Though I'd recommend getting off a bit earlier than that :)

Would be too funny if AMD come out with something matching or slightly beating Nvidia but want more money :p:D

I think they will come with a decent game bundle, maybe discount code for a CPU purchase (or vice versa). Choo Chooooooo

A 56CU 5700XT at 2.2Ghz with 50% better perf/w with NO OTHER CHANGES I would expect to be close to a 2080Ti. I fail to see why that would be where the limit would be and why there would be no other improvements either.

I really hope AMD can pull off another 4870 again. That was a £229 card which was beating a £450 GTX 280 in some games and not far behind it in others.

I remember selling my 8800 GTS, I think, a week before the 4870 came out for £240 so actually made £11 profit in the swap :)

It would be better than a 2080Ti and more efficient.

I agree it would probably be around 5% faster but it would be pretty close. But my point is how much more can AMD offer top and how realistic is it that they can close that additional gap to a 3080?

If they have an 80CU part at 2.2Ghz I fail to see how it couldn't match a 3080 to be honest, with IPC improvements etc that are expected.
If the top end is 64CU at 2.3-2.4Ghz then It would likely fall about 5-10% slower than a 3080 in my opinion.

I just fail to see a scenario where AMD are not at least reasonably close to a 3080 in terms of raw raster perf but you never know, they might completely drop the ball.
