Google Pixel 5

Based on the synthetic benchmarks, in day to day usage it would appear to fall between an 845 and 855 whilst for gaming it would be closer to the 835.

For me, coming from a OP5T, the increase in day to day performance is what I am after. I am fairly certain the only game I have ever played on my phone is Chess which is hardly intensive.

It would be entirely subjective but sure, I think these are all free and should run... I'd say try Civilization VI but it's paid and I'm fairly sure it wouldn't support the Pixel 5 anyway, it's not fast enough imo.

I have just had a quick flick through YouTube and it looks like both PUBG and Fortnite run absolutely fine on the Oneplus Nord. I would not expect the P5 to be drastically different.

Yeah, they run. My laptop can "run" most AAA games with integrated graphics at 30fps but that's obviously only half the story. :rolleyes:
 
I can't think of anything worse than playing a game on a tiny 6" screen. Well maybe other than Angry Birds while you're sitting on the Netty or something like that.

I wonder how if the Snapdragon 765G costs more than an 855 with 4G.

I for 1 would have preferred that combo.
 
That's the beauty of Android though, right? There's so much choice, we can all get what we want :). You don't need to understand why others want something else :)

I guess for a lot of the purists, Pixel phones are the only option. When I dabbled in Android I only considered Pixels as I wanted that experience.
 
Yeah I have always enjoying getting android from the horse's mouth. I understand I can get better bang for my buck elsewhere. But having good photos and a bloat free experience is what I enjoy.

I rarely recommend pixels to my friends. But for me it's pretty much all I use.

iPhone / iPad work and pixels for personal.
 
The other considerations I had when pre-ordering were the fact the Pixel 5 is significantly smaller than my OP5T (and would would be dwarfed by the OP8T) and that I do not particularly like the look of OPs proposed skin changes to Oxygen. Pixel android experience, by definition really, will always be cleanest and receive the quickest updates.
 
I never understand why people slate the Pixel line so much. Yes, based on pure specs on a piece of paper they don't scream good value that's for sure but two points to consider: there's a software and camera experience you just don't get with other phones that some people value more than having bleeding edge specifications and secondly, we all know Pixels go on deal relatively quickly.

People criticise the Pixel for certain reasons, yet fail to realise that the opposite is also true. For example: people claim the software experience on Pixel isn't that great because XYZ manufacturer has had the same features for ages. Well, there's things the Pixel has that I'm pretty sure aren't available on other phones - e.g. the more advanced Google Assistant. Looks like there's unoffocial methods that require Magisk to get Assistant 2.0 on non-Pixel phones so I'm guessing that's not supported.

Whilst the camera hardware isn't as comprehensive in regards to number of sensors/lens combinations, the main sensor most of the time just nails the shot. Take the Nord for example, most reviewers are saying that the macro lens/sensor is just completely pointless and Samsung just can't help but over process the **** out of their pictures. There's a reason why Gcam mods are always mooted as a solution for those looking to improve their phone's camera capabilities.

I'm actually not buying the Pixel 5 and I'm getting the Fold2 but I'm under no illusion I'm taking a step backwards in certain areas by going to Samsung - hopefully the foldable mini tablet experience will make up for the UI cleanliness step down, additional bloat that can't all be disabled because Facebook and Microsoft line Samsung's pockets and the cameras that smooth so much detail out of photos I might as well ask a 6 year old to draw my portrait with a blunt crayon.
 
Has anyone ordered from CPW? It looks like they've Sage Green as an option, whilst Google doesn't and their ETA seems to be better.

How does the warranty work? I remember buying my Pixel refurb a while back from Laptops Direct and Google accepted my Pixel without any hassle. Is that the case with CPW?

I'm sick and tired of the horrible UI in the P30 Pro... :( Pixel ticks all the boxes, finger print scanner, great camera, clean android, 6inch and 4000mah battery. :)
 
Anyone seen one in the wild, have high street stores got demo units?

I want to see how the size feels compared to my 3XL. I'm quite used to a large phone and my only concern is whether the screen quality and size will feel like a downgrade. If this phone wasn't cracked I wouldn't be in a rush to upgrade however reliable repair is unlikely so may as well pick up the 5.

Warranty wise you can still go to Google and bypass cpw. So you will have the same 2 years.

The only difference is you will have to send in your device first. Google don't repair so you will be sent a new or refurbished unit.

If you get direct from google they will send you a new device first and you have x amount of days to get your unit back to them.

I think unfortunately that will be the case for a lot of people, they will be under the misconception that they are getting a 'flagship' for a good price, especially when you keep in mind the price of the Pixel 4 on release, and now the latest Pixel 5 from Google is cheaper, it's a very clever move from Google, it's a sheep in wolfs clothing.

With large price reduction I think the best value Pixel now is Pixel 4 XL.
