rtx 3080 20gb coming Dec

dam it..the more i hear about this 20gb version the more im thinking to cancel my preorder.. no update on que either last update i had was a week ago and i was 144 for a aorus xtreme 3080

Yup. That's exactly what I have said in other threads. But the reason for my post is you said they would cost the same as the 10GB versions.

"But after that you should be able to buy a 20Gb 3080 for the same money as some people paid for their 10gb 3080."

I paid £689. No 20GB 3080 is gonna cost £689.

I meant that 3080s arent currently selling for list price of £579 to £649 max and some 3080s are approaching £800 due to shortages. Hence you "should" be able to buy the 20gb for what "some" people are paying for 10gb cards now.

Sorry I didnt make myself clear, i never meant to suggest they would be the same price as 3080 10gb list price.

10GB is plenty. So many on here claiming it's not enough.

im conserend that it is not enough for 4k later down the line..and that the 20gb will be a better choice in the long run. I already preorderd my 3080 though.and going from 11 to 10...seems like a downgrade..20gb seems a lot more better the more i hear about it now.

By the time you need more VRAM, you will aslo need a new GPU. Remember even the consoles only have a total of 16GB of RAM. Games will be designed around that being 10GB or less for graphics, 6 GB for OS and game itself. Most people will end up with 8GB cards. I plan to keep my 3080 (If it ever arrives) until next gen (Hopper/RDNA3) as it should have much lower power draw with a great increase in RT again. Right now the 3080 just manages good RT performance at 1440p and it looks as though RDNA2 will have to focus on 1/2 or 1/4 resolution to keep up. Hence the need for new GPUs before VRAM is an issue.

I'd also add that I'm not a fan of these high resolution texture packs as you need to zoom in on screen shots to see the difference. I'm more interested in enjoying the games.

what about games like flightsim 2020 and doom eternal. thats using over 9gigs of vram at 4k from what i understand..and thats an old game now..I dunno man. i just dont see it lasting very long considering were we are now . another example is horizen zero dawn. and skyrim and fallout 4 with mods can easily go very high to begin with...hows that going to turn out when other open world games come out requering higher vram and then if installing mods its going to require more..i just dunno.

FS 2020 is still a beta product, just not in name. It's heading towards the next gen XBOX which has just 10GB of fast VRAM, the other 6GB is slower. Doom Eternal requests 8.1-8.2GB last I saw. Sure you can add mods, you can keep adding them so that you will always run out of VRAM. The 3090 only has 24GB, while the pro version has 48GB. The question is does the 3080 102 GPU(?) need more than 10GB. I think we need a better GPU to make use of more VRAM hence you will be turing down settings before needing more VRAM.

ll depends on how long you plan to keep they card. There was good reason Nvidia chose Doom Eternal and the graphics settings they put it at to use as a comparison with the 3080 and 2080 to prove their twice as fast.

The 8gb 2080 runs out of memory and loses 20% of its performance. In fact the 1080ti with is 11Gb beats the 2080 at those setttings. So its using between 8gb and 10gb.

So already in 2 years the 8gb of the 2080 has been shown that its isnt enough so chances are in the next two years the 10gb 3080 will run out of steam. Yeah you can just turn down the settings but who wants to do that after spending £700 to £800?

Lots of people dont swap cards every two years. If i hadnt been offered two 2080ti at half price I would still be rocking a 4 year old graphics card.

And why did Nvdia put 11gb on the 1080ti over three and half years ago? If people are saying now that 8bgb is enough why werent people complaining about the unnecessary 11gb that the 1080ti had?

I think the 11GB was due to it being a cut down chip, thats what the cut adress bus could handle.

In two years (i hope) we will see Hopper/RDNA3 with far better RT support. 3080/90 and RDNA2 will be turning down the settings.

It's also worth taking note of game engines moving towards streaming of data, hence requiring less VRAM used as a cache.

exactly what I did, gunna sit on it for the time being and see how it all plays out.

+1 the amount ppl are buying the normal 3080 for atm they could easy be getting a 3080s/ti when they launch if they were a little patient

Not a chance you're getting a 20Gb for anywhere near £700.

Well there are 3080 cards selling at retail shows for £800 to £830 and people are still buying them. Some people paying up to double that on ebay. We are saying the 20gb will start from perhaps £850. I would rather pay the extra £20 for the 20gb card personally.

Plus will all depend on AMD pricing. IF and i mean IF as reported in none rt games the 6900XTX is faster than a 3090 and the 6900xt is faster than a 3080 and both come with 16gb memory, if the 6900xt is less than £650 and the 6900xtx is around £850, just how much do you think Nvidia can sell a slower card more?

Not the stupid £1000 to £1200 prices people are saying on here.

Really depends on how many people want next gen graphics. RDNA2 doesn't look like it can get close to Ampere with RT. I'm only upgrading my 1080Ti FTW3 for RT. I would have gone with a 2080Ti but it just didn't have the RT performance. I feel Ampere delivers what Turing promised.

I’m doing exactly the same, the 20 series was in essence a beta test, a very expensive one at that. Most 2080’s don’t score a lot higher than a decent 1080 ti in none rtx workloads (obviously) so it was a no brainier for me a wait.

the gigabyte aorus xtreme is £910 on here.and the 3090 version is £1700. given the fact a 20gb is only 4gigs less then a 3090, That prob puts the lowest tier cards at or around £1100-£1200 So for an xtreme 3080 20gb..that would prob be around £1500. I would like to be wrong about this though and it would cost a lot less..£1200..but I doubt it considering its top of the line gigabyte model.
