The one thing that does irk..... is when people expect AMD to practically give away their products, even if they are better.

We need AMD to be competitive, competitive does not mean free for all.
So you're annoyed because of something nobody has said? "Free for all"...? Can we stick to things people are actually asking for not some bizarro idea that we want CPUs for nothing?

We need AMD to be competitive, competitive does not mean free for all. AMD like everyone else need to make money so they can spend on R&D to keep being competitive.

Intel's CPU's are now in every measurable way worse than AMD's, and yet still more expensive, how is it still AMD's responsibility to to reduce margins on their products? Why do Intel still get a free pass?

Agreed, Intel have been fleecing their customers for years....and yet people still defend them....AMD innovate want a measly 50 uplift and people kick off....

Pathetic.

Its a figure of speech, you're not that stupid, stop avoiding the point.

Yeah, and then incessantly argue with others about what they want.

Would a £349 5700x 8/16 suit? Are people really scrimping over 50 quid when building a pc? The cpu being the most important part but yet they’ll spaff this £50 on led lights and fans....:p
Nope I'd want that for £300 or less.

It's £50 here, £50 there, £50 on this, that, the other...

Let's not forget AMD mobo prices went from £100 on average to £300+, with some mobos now being £500+ (I never thought I'd see the day).

Mainstream GPUs have gone from £150 to £400.

Everything is going up and up, and just accepting it is a great way to signal that it should keep going up. I guess you won't mind paying £900 for your CPU in 5 years time, but I would :p

So define what you mean by "want AMD to give away their CPUs".

Because if you don't mean literally, then I have to guess what price point you think equate to "too cheap".

Is £200 "too cheap" for a 6c? Is £200 "too cheap" for the 5600X? What is "too cheap" for @humbug ?

The fact is Lisa is one hell of a gal :D

She is... they broke the mould with her and AMD deserve to increase their margins a bit, they haven't gone daft with it. I'm disappointed the 6 core is near £300 now but Intel's WORSE alternative is £100 more, after long hard thinking i'm ok with this, if it helps AMD remain competitive... fine! Its ok.

That will be the real fight on review day.

I reckon the 5600X will crush the 10600K and give the 9900K/10700K a close run.

I still think the 10600K will win in gaming especially when overclocked and that will leave AMD in an uncomfortable position with a more expensive CPU that has been marketed to gamers.

Don't think you can trust the AMD slides as they would have won last time around according to these.

You can buy a solid B550 for £130....

You can buy a 5800x for £429

That’s £559 just £59 more than the cost of a 9900k on launch...

I think you'll find a lot of things going up mate food clothes and electronics it's unfortunately the times were living in with this covid 19 virus eventually things will sort themselves out but not at present if you think it's to much don't buy it wait for it to drop down in price

Sorry we're not all intent on making this an echo chamber for people who have a Lisa Su comfort pillow.

We don’t all get upset and fill a forum with with spam because we think some people might have Lisa Su pillows. I can neither confirm nor deny I have Lisa Su pillows.

Indeed I was referring to the X570 launch prices. It was quite a wait for the B550 if you recall. A lot of people either ponied up for X570 or ended up buying X450 instead.

X570 was a huge jump in pricing at release. A huge jump.

Wont the 5600 be competing with the i5-10600K (6C/12T) that is £260?

Prices all round have gone to high but that's just my opinion and looks like I'll be stuck buying second hand like i did for the major components in my current PC. Profit margins are crazy high on almost all the CPU's now

Nobody expects the 5600X to be £200. Not even the 1600X was that cheap. I expect/hope AMD to release a 5600 in a few months time for about £200.

The 12 core is £550, the same price as the 10900K and will be at least as good at 1080P gaming, and a lot better at everything else and less than half the power consumption.

And AMD are the criminals, not Intel.

Hey, I hate all companies equally! Intel don't get a free pass with me, no company does.

I know you said it was a figure of speech but nobody is expecting anyone to give away their stuff.

Equally, remember not all of us on here care about whether companies to do well, or whether they deserve this or that. Some, like me are just a customer who wants fast and cheap as possible and doesn't care who makes it.

Which one of those is the better CPU?

Launch prices are alway inflated....Just look at price gouging in the RTX 3080
