skimmed this - his 3.9miles/Kwh seemed good I drove the Volkswagen ID.3 until it DIED!
AA callout at the end - that'll teach people not to run out.

so UK only has one variant at the moment and they're not revealing the others pricing, how did people make up their mind
unlike germany https://www.carwow.de/volkswagen/id3

Seemed to work for Nissan with the Leaf 2.Zero. They sold out of those over here, and then launched the full range (which wound up offering better value).

yes I wonder if the bigger battery versions with heat pump will be more valuable.

interesting video, suggesting you need to sell 2nd hand ev with a picture of engine bay + charge connector , to understand vehicles true spec.

good article it refs on wltp calculation for ev's https://generationstrom.com/2019/08/27/wltp/
The WLTP offers a much more precise range and consumption forecast than the previously valid NEDC. Nevertheless, from the customer's point of view, it is incomprehensible why important additional information, such as consumption while driving or the amount of energy taken in the test, does not have to be published. This information is extremely valuable for e-mobilists. Then it becomes easy for the customer to understand how consumption, charging efficiency, range and battery size are interdependent

Pretty much about to sign on an October delivery P2.

It's a bit of a risk but I think it's the best car on the market for me at the moment.

Had a couple of weeks now in the Ipace and my home charger is finally going in too.

Really enjoying it so far. Not done any longer journeys but for my commute is been awesome.

What charger kw wise have you gone with? We're looking at putting 2x 7kw chargers at the office which should give full charge in a working day...

It definitely will, should take 4-5 hours depending on the battery size. A 3-pin plug (2kw) almost does my SR+ when parked up for 8.5 hours at the office (20-65%).

Seriously considering the EQC, but I rent at the moment.

Landlord has no issue with me installing a home charger, but I'm likely to buy my own house in the next 6 months so it seems a bit pointless using the grant money to install it at this property that I don't even own.

Has anyone just used a 3-pin 230v plug socket for a few months? Doable?

I've got a 13A outdoor socket at home, but I don't pay for electricity as it's included in my rent so I'm not taking the mick there and I'll use it if I'm caught short and nothing else.

Websites suggest 7hrs on a 7kw for the P2 from empty. I work from the office 90% of the time so I'll basically never pay for the fuel in my car, looking at £420 for the P2 with the optional wheels which I'm pretty happy with, and that includes the servicing, roadside assistance etc (included by Polestar). My car insurance is £100 more than for my i30N which is about 5.5s 0-60 vs 4.1 0-60 and I'm only 23. And I'll never pay for servicing or fuel as work will pay for that or the car will... Oh and I wont pay NI or tax on the money...

I think I've managed to order an I-PACE so ill see what happens there. I'll start off granny charging until I work out what i want to do with charging at my house ad presently mileage wont make it a concern. Podpoint seem to be offering a reasonable price for installation.

Interesting an Arval scheme also popped up that includes the charger as part of the monthly salary sacrifice which probably helps encourage people.

That literally makes no sense :D

The charging time is very simple. The size of the battery divided by the charger capacity.

So an 85kW Tesla battery on a 7kW charger would take 85/7 = 12 hours from 0 to 100% but the last 20% takes about 3 times as long because of battery protection circuitry.

So in your P2 example if it had a 49kW battery on a 7kW charger it would indeed take 7 hours empty to full. But I reckon it’s 72.5kW so you’re looking at 10-12 hour charge time from 0-100%. 20-80% would be about 7 hours though, which is possibly what you saw.

If you’ve got 3-phase power then put in 22kW AC chargers as they’ll charge most cars much faster than the 7kW chargers. I think the Tesla M3 maxes out at 11kW with new S and X able to charge at the full 22kW. Some other cars have 22kW AC charging built in (Renault Zoe I think). Some Vauxhall’s/Peugeot’s have 11kW charging as an option and the Kia/Hyundai cars also have 10.5kW chargers now. They’re literally 50% faster in most cases and with a Recent Model s or Model X they’re twice as fast. At an office where you might want to rotate cars that could be important and they’re usually not a lot more expensive.

I thought it was only the early Model S that had twin AC chargers to give 22kW?

I don't know for certain as I'm not lucky enough to have one. I was under the impression it was the newer ones. You may well be correct.

[Edit]Apparently we're both a bit wide of the mark, although you may be be correct about a dual charger on early Model S. Currently, you need to specify the optional fast AC charger and then it will charge at 17kW. Fast charger was an option from model year 2019 onwards according to my friend who has both an S and an X[/Edit]

I've been using a 3 pin for 2 weeks and even on the Ipace with its large battery and relative inefficiency it was fine.

Did you go for the tethered cable or untethered? Purely out of interest as I've just done the same order. Just got to complete the Annex D and get a date scheduled.

Tethered for me. Comes with a long cable. Untethered means you have to use your own cable. The one that came with my car was nowhere near long enough.

What car have you ordered?

What doesn't make sense?

I think he means the maths on charging a M3 SR+ from a 2kW granny charger. Tesla reckon 24 hours to go from 20 to 80% with the 2kW charging cable. 8.5 hours at 2kW is 17kW and the usable capacity on the SR+ is 54kW so at best you’d get a 25% charge. I do about 600 miles per week and I spend a good part of 24 hours a week on chargers (mainly the free 7kW ones). That said, if you’re doing less than a couple of hundred miles per week, you should only have to charge once per week overnight on the 7kW charger.
