The UI looks really slick, liking it.

Looks like the series x supports 1440p output so I'm really hoping the PS5 does too, would make my life with my 1440p UW much simpler! UW support isn't something I'm expecting though.

I have been wondering about this since the initial PS5 reveal, I also have an UW monitor (5120x1440) and am interested to see what my PS5 makes of it. I agree it is unlikely it will fill the screen but would be nice to know exactly what resolutions the PS5 can support. My main interest is because I have a 4k TV but its an older model and doesn't support HDR so i would like to try it out on the UW to see how it looks.

I think the best outcome we can realistically expect will be a 16:9 1440p output, then set your UW to retain original aspect ration, for me on my 3440x1440 UW it'll mean black bars on either side, but it's better than using my 1080p 2nd monitor. I may upgrade that to a 4k at some point down the line.

I wouldn't hold your breathe for 1440P support as Sony seem to just follow television standards, you're going to either have black bars or scaling which will look a bit less sharp.

Worth noting that my work laptop does not list 5120x1440 as a supported resulution but it does drive the monitor at that resolution. Just at 30hz which for me works fine (I dont see any discernable flicker). The additonal desktop space is fantastic at 5120 :-)

ShopTo currently offering £45 psn top up for £37.85 (16% saving). Makes digital prices a bit more palatable, especially if buying something for PS5 before sales come around.

I was contemplating this as I know the three games I want but there not listed on psn store last time I looked so I don't know how much digital versions will be

Assuming it will be RRP but I'd rather know for sure

I'm starting my new job on Nov 2nd so this means I don't have to feel guilty if I decide to keep both consoles. Think I'm going to subscribe to Boomerang for a couple of months to play AC/Watchdogs/whatever and that will keep me going until the Cyberpunk patch is out with any luck.

I'm a bit confused about this 3D audio stuff.

At the moment I have a pair of wireless headphones with the wireless transmitter plugged directly into the TVs headphone jack. Will I be getting the 3D audio through that or do I need headphones connecting directly to the PS5 somehow?

3d audio will work on any stereo headset, the 3d audio stuff is done in the console and then output via 3.5mm on the controller, or via USB.

So, I have a 3440x1440 UW main monitor, an LG 34WL750, which has HDMI 2.0. Just out of interest, I tried creating a custom resolution, of 3840x2160 (24hz as that's the most my 3rd gen i5 on board gpu will do), and what do you know? It will accept a 3840x2160 input!! Just tested the PS5 UI video in 4k full screen, and it looks.... PERFECT. :D

Tested with my work laptop too, which has a more recent CPU on board GPU (intel 620) and although it can only do 30hz (HDMI 1.4), it could also set the resolution to 3840x2160 with no issues. So, I should be able to output the PS5 at 3840x2160 60hz and have my display downscale to 2560x1440 60hz.

You can fill the monitor but if your device output resolution is different from what the monitor can support on a per pixel basis it will either be squished, bits chopped off or re-scaled to fit in some way (maybe black bars at each end depending on the resolution used). Unless your device outputs the exact resoultion of the monitor you are losing image (the top/bottom are squished or not visible) or stretching to fit (upscaling) one way or the other. The only real way to be 100% sure how UW will work with the PS5 is actually plugging one in and seeing what video modes are available once it has detected the display, i personally think it will be fixed to max 4k (or will maybe do 3440*1440 if you are lucky) for performance reasons. Sadly i expect an image in the centre of the monitor and black bars either side from my 5120*1440, even with a lower resolution UW the image will not be 1-1 pixel mapped unless the PS5 outputs the precise resolution of the monitor so will work, but will not be as detailed as a true 4k display.
