AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER

Maybe it would have been easier for ocuk to just group all 3080's under one product offering priced the same as the highest 3080 (Strix OC?) and then people get a random 3080 based on what ever stock comes in.

#SillyIdea

I'm just waiting to see what will happen now, I did order a 3080 from OcUK but cancelled my order when it became apparent the wait would be longer than about 3 weeks, I ordered an Asus TUF so it was a long queue. I'm not wedded to either manufacturer especially but I have found over the years my Nvidia cards have worked better with a lot less fuss than the AMD ones I have had (going back to 1998 here when I had a Riva TNT after my 3DFX cards), saying that I have actually only had 1 AMD branded card prior to that my last one was under the ATI branding but I have been so pleased with my last 2 cards, a GTX 970 and currently a GTX 1080Ti it'll take a bit of a leap to buy an AMD GPU ...however, if it's fast enough, the right price AND I can actually buy one when I want it, I might very well do so.

I reckon it'll be success a if they can at least have sufficient numbers available when launched, by that I mean as long as a high percentage of buyers actually get the cards they want, and AMD can deliver more within a short space of time to keep the momentum going, if they can, they'll give Nvidia a right old pasting.
Saying that, I think Nvidia might have been holding stocks back to dump the market with 3070/3080 supers or Ti cards to pee on AMD cornflakes as it were. How folks will react to that is any one's guess as lots have very short memories, but will certainly anger lots of others who already have 3080 10gb versions, who paid at gouged prices only for a better card to drop onto the market.

Some have been badly gouged and don't even have a card to show for it! or any idea when they're getting one, it is a truly sickening display of greed and dirty tactics by NV and their retailers.

Imagine that! having been gouged for the priveledge of NOT having a card to play with, you'd think if common sense were still alive and kicking that the consumer would think "Hmmm I'm paying a premium here, but for what? surely if I'm paying over the odds I shoulld at least get product immediately right?"

But no! people seem to think you pay a premium gouged price to wait in a queue! just how bamboozled "we" have become by the normalisation of anti-consumer practices? that it's now "fine" to pay over the odds and NOT recieve a product even the reasonable expectation of recieiving one any time soon!

Crazy, it absolutely blows my mind what people will put up with today, and then they defend those taking them for a ride, what a weird weird world we live in...

:)

I bought 10, when they arrived I smashed them all open with hammers to try and get some bitcoins out, but they didn't have any in them... :(

Onto the next ones!

Only a graphics card that has increased the working cashflow of all businesses by millions during the pandemic where businesses are struggling for cashflow.

Not really relevant.

People know the terms and conditions OcUK operate under and if they still want to go ahead and order it's a bit unfair to moan about it later.

Personally I don't wish to be in a queue for a graphics card so will wait until there are plenty about.

I am using a 3 year old GPU in my 24/7 PC which I am quite happy with and even found out today it is quicker than a 3090 in Vulkan.:D

As to Unmitigated disasters, I will continue giving money to charity when they occur as the victims of these have far more to worry about than when they will receive a graphics card.

Graphics cards are for entertainment, they are only toys (expensive ones) but just toys.

It is only a graphics card....

"it's only a graphic's card"

Of course it is, we can say that about most things, but we are in the 'Graphics Card' section of a computer enthusiasts forum, what are we supposed to talk about, world hunger? the failings of capitalism and it's effect on social mobility?, there is no question that there is more important things going on at the moment but that is also why many people on here are looking for an escape, people would rather fixate on their hobbies and interests right now rather remembering to wear a surgical mask to pick a tin of beans from the corner shop, I know people are trying to put the obvious into perspective, I get that, but I don't think we can fully digest everything that is going on out there right now, so in the mean time, welcome, put the kettle on, grab a bean bag, ignorance is bliss in the GPU lounge.
