Until next year when they bring out something better round and round we go what will it do that your current processor won't?
Nothing but i don't care, as i said i enoy tech and i enjoy building PC's, in the winter it is my main hobby. I work hard for my money and spend it on the things i enjoy
 
The 3080 is £649 (retailer markups are always a thing, but some launch prices for good cards were set at RRP), which is cheaper than the 2080 whilst pushing performance a lot more versus the previous gen. The performance proposition is quite improved.

The 3090 is £1,399 for the best card (FE), but availability is crap and therefore markups are, again, in abundance for AIBs. That is an unreasonable increase vs the £1200 of the 2080ti, I'll agree with you.

How much was the 2080?

Just checked and when 3000 cards have popped up on reputable sites the prices have been £800 and 1600 plus. More like £900 for the 3080.

Mmmmm, seems very odd to me. Just downloaded and run Geekbench myself. The single core result was of no surprise against my 3950x. The multi core result was a complete shock to be honest. How could a 3950x blow a 5950x into the weeds on multi core ? Makes no sense to me.

Must be the memory still. Geekbench likes fast low latency ram.
Wouldn't worry. Pretty sure in equal configuration it will be faster

One would hope so. Who ever posted the 5950x result somehow managed to hide the ramspeed even though, like me, they were using the "tryout" version. I wonder how and why they did that ? Because it certainly isn't an option in the tryout version.

Look at the individual test results, GeekBench seems to put more emphasis on AES, Camera, Horizon Detection... than is does on anything actually performance related, its a synthetic benchmarking tool and a pretty useless one at that.

Lol, i'm fully aware it's useless @humbug, that's why i had to download it. That still dosn't explain the difference in multicore though.
