*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3090 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

Agreed. Unless he is planning on changing his monitor this month, a decent AIB 3080 like the Asus will be within 1 to 2 fps of the 3090 at 1080p. I am only looking at a 3090 cause I game in 4k 120hz.
Maybe he’s future proofing when my 1080 60hz tv broke I bought a 4K 120hz monitor knowing I would be upgrading my GPU at some point (3000 series wasn’t announced at the time although everybody knew it was coming by that point).
So when it comes hopefully I will be getting near the 4K 120hz.
But for now I only do 1080 on my current GTX1070 on the monitor don’t know my FPS haven’t measured since I got the monitor.

Yeah, the 3090 is overkill for 1080p...but over time games will become more graphically complex, especially as more devs start to implement ray tracing. I'm willing to bet that the performance diffential between the 3080 and 3090 increases over time as better drivers and game engines are more able to use the whole GA102 chip. Those of you that remember the 2016 Turing release should recall people saying that the GTX1080 was a card for 1440p and 4k, but by 2018 the GTX1080 wasn't good for high refresh rates at ultra settings at 1080p anymore - and nowadays you're only good for medium settings (depending on the game of course). I think there's a good chance that the GPU becomes the bottleneck at 1080p/ultra settings/high refresh rates within a couple of years, and the performance differential will scale with the transistor count (i.e. +c.25%)

Still overkill - but if you can't get an RTX 3080 and you can get an RTX 3090 and you're not particularly price sensitive the extra money is not a complete waste.

Yeah they told me mid November in my most recent ticket.....I have however managed to get them to send the rest of my order without having to pay shipping twice, as splitting the order meant both portions were under the threshold for free delivery.

This is what they said to me.

I have conversed with our shipping manager and product managers to see if I can get a better estimate on your order's shipping date. The date I was given was November 13th. I hope this still works for you. You still should receive your items before resllers in the UK according to this information.

and then

I'll see if I can do anything to accommodate your request. The delay is due to sourcing and manufacturing issues as one of our parts suppliers was unable to provide us with the needed parts for in time manufacturing and we were thus forced to postpone the release. This had to be done, as we did not want to release an unfinished product.

Should the block and backplate be postponed yet again, which is unlikely at the moment, I am sure that our leadership would think of some form of compensation.

I wonder if the 'issue' was anything to do with Linus' video a few days ago where they had to file a EK Strix water block down to avoid it fouling on some capacitors :D

Just got an email from EK saying that my water block is delayed and due to be with me on 27th Nov. also include next order discount which will be useless as won't need to order anymore as that order will complete my loops, ah well.

Now hoping for next shipping being large

So I just cancelled my order for a 3090 Strix non-oc. Gibbo's comments from 26th pretty much confirmed, at least in my mind, what I was already thinking. Asus are binning the GPUs (probably after manufacture but I don't know this) and for a non-oc to ship they either need a weak bit of silicon, especially considering how good the PCB on the strix is reported as being, or they need to run out of OC orders. Given I can't find any evidence of a strix non-oc being shipped anywhere in the world, not to a reviewer or customer I suspect the latter needs to hapopen

Either way if it is the former then I am not sure I want such a weak bit of silicon in a card as pricy as the Strix and if it is the former well I am as good cancelling anyway as I will probably find an OC before I find an non-oc.

Finally, given I am now likely to have to wait until next year :(, I may well see what team red have really got as availability for a Strix is likely the same regardless of if it is Nvidia or AMD.

Good luck to the rest of you waiting in the queues though. I was #30 for a 3090 Strix non-oc

Yeah I read the same thing into this as you. The only 3090 none OC cards your are going to see atm are ones where the chip cant hold the overclocks of the OC card and hence you will be guaranteed to have a one of the worst performing 3090s and you have paid the second more expensive price.

Was it you or another poster that said Asus would probably do this ? As in bin the chips and put the less good ones on the the non oc version.
Whoever said it initially was called mad ,that they were speculating bull**** and told they were the exact same card and there was no point paying extra.

Also only for my own benefit, is the Greebo in your name as in the Mackam/geordie name for a metaler/goth/punk ?
seem to remember that word from my time up north (I was a skater when I lived up there)

Exactly this. People were ridiculed for suggesting this would happen

I assume this would not be the case with the FE card though as don't Nvidia cherry pick the best silicon for their own cards?

Normally when not in short supply Asus dont bin. The cards are the same, just the boost in the bios is different. So normally it really doesnt matter which card you buy, they both have the same silicon lottery chance of being one of the golden 10%

However, what is happening is that Asus are just putting the oc bios on every card because they can sell that for £50 more. I dont actually think any chip would fail to pass the testing to be an OC card anyway which seems to be happening as you cant get a none oc card. But more so than ever, if an odd one or two "none oc" cards land then they are going to be failed OC cards flashed with the normal bios. If both cards were arriving in equal numbers there would be no binning going on.

But thats enough to put me off for now. Once we are in 2021 and supply is more than demand then it will be safe again to buy a none oc card IMO.

Although my family are Geordies and I was a goth when younger the Greebo name is from Terry Pratchett books, the cat owned by Nanny Ogg the witch.

No I was specifically referring to Asus. Other manufacturers seem to be shipping both their none and OC cards in equal numbers.

Cheers for answering that random question saw you were from County Durham I lived in Hetton-le-hole for a year technically County Durham just wondered.
3 of my brothers still live up there.
And I remember being called a Greebo a lot lol.

Thats cause somebody thought you were smelly and evil :D:p:D

I am off the train bois. I was lucky to get a FE yesterday drop and received it today. Cancelling my Asus ROG 3090 OC since I really couldn't justfiy its price/performance to myself.
