EV general discussion

I wish BMW had useles something wider than bicycle tyres on the back of the i3. Sliding around is fun and all, but I wish I could just accelerate briskly without it squirming around everywhere and the DSC cutting in in these conditions...

Hmmm....

Lewis Hamilton puts down 5 times the power of the i3 through tyres that are only twice as wide. And they don’t spin up in the wet (often). No traction control. No driver aids.

How? Skill.

What you’re really saying is you wish you’d spent more time developing a sensitive right foot and then you’d have fewer issues.

But given this is from the man who had to cut out of his seatbelt after he had his Tesla upside down in a field you probably shouldn’t take too much notice of any implied criticism of your driving style. :)

P2 range is basically little over 200 miles from what I've seen from owners, nowhere near the 292 mile WLTP range.

The EPA range is a lot more accurate.

But that's not a problem if you have an ICE car for longer journeys.

The absolute range is much less important than how fast it charges up. The ABC concept means you stop for as short a period as possible. Tesla even warm the batteries for the last 5 miles before a planned charging stop so it takes the full charge straight away. And I bet even with 200 miles range you’ll probably only charge it once a week anyway.

they addressed this on i3s ?
Ah possibly. I know the S has a wider track. Haven’t driven an S, let alone in the wet..

My rears are 5.5J; F1 is 405mm, so over 3x wider :p

I know I need to be less aggressive on the throttle, but still frustrating. Tell me more about your upside down adventure!

I was driving ‘enthusiastically’ with the limiter set to 60mph and I was doing a lot of slow in fast out corners on a nice B road when I discovered that it went from 25-60 a LOT faster than it went from 60-25. The road turned abruptly left, I kept going straight and the car went nose first into a ditch and ended up on its roof. Luckily another car saw me and he cut me out of the seatbelt (which was VERY tight). I think the only panel not damaged is the roof glass, which the AA recovery driver said was ‘perfect’. It’s clearly a write-off and the question now is do I get another M3P or something else.

Blimey; glad to hear you’re ok!
May I suggest an i3? You’ll never get the power down to be able to spear off into a ditch :D

I said it before. The i3 is dangerous to drive quick. Handles awful and terrible brakes
Aye, the brakes are terrible.
Anyway as a commuting hack and second car it’s perfectly fine.

Although the ACC can suck a fat one
Doesn’t work in the rain, doesn’t work in the shade, doesn’t work in the sun, and heaven forbid you should actually expect it to work outside.

The ACC on my Mk7 Golf deactivated once in 12 months. The ACC in this i3 refuses to engage more often that it does engage

Too much sun on the motorway this morning? No can do!
Coming round a corner to a set of lights out of the shade from behind some houses? No can do!
Bit of spray off that lorry you just overtook? No can do!

Seriously, it’s a complete joke and downright dangerous.

going from a performance model 3 to an i3 is quite a come down. maybe just a std model 3 from china will be a good match. still 260+ miles on a charge.

I3 looks like a car which has been squished on top of another bigger car. Typical modern BMW design where nothing really lines up and looks weird.

Interior is a lovely place to be though if specced properly. I love my wool seats and eucalyptus dash :D

It needs to lose that stepped bumper.

It needs to lose the clamshell doors. How do I get passengers out without getting out /opening my door? Stupid design and no wonder only around 4 cars in recent history have ever had that design.

Lovely interior ambiance but it is really showing its age now.

Has anyone had any experience with the VW ID3?

I have specd up a life with turquoise and alloys which comes in at around £250 a month through NHS on 10k a year.

Apart from the 1st edition all come with the standard steel wheels which look naff... I'm just wondering if I'd miss any of the other options on family/style trims?

It seems like it comes with quite decent spec as standard anyway, just if I think adding another 20 colours to the interior lighting and fancier indicator lights are worth the extra?

Why bother spending the money on lights etc - when it's a lease car.....

The whole point of leasing is cheap simple motoring and hand it back at the end. Don't waste money on something you don't actually own.

Knew someone who added £150 a month of "extras" on a BMW lease - Paying like £700 a month for a PCH/lease BMW....Mental.

The colour and wheels only add on around £15 per month so don't mind paying a little more for a bit of colour and wheels.
