I'm actually excited about the PS5 arriving, I forgot the Xbox arrives 3 days but I feel nothing. I guess because I know I probably wont use it for a while and also it has shiny graphics where as I'm looking forward to the shiny graphics and the new controls on the V.
I'm legit more excited about Astro Bot than anything I could play on gamepass (currently)

Well that's a bit awkward for Sony!

Personally I am not surprised.

I dont know why sony thought higher sequential speed would make the difference, we already know nvme barely makes a difference over sata on PC albeit without direct storage.

However even with direct storage, random i/o and software stack were likely to tbe the defining factors here and looks like microsoft's is better. Which is good news for PC gamers as we will probably get what xbox has.

Think I might be ready to get one next June or so. None of the games so far interest me, though I haven't been looking into it really.

So after all the going on how it's going to be super fast at loading, it's actually the slowest. That's just funny.

"Once you clear menu screen animations, loading times are a mere four seconds - an astonishingly short space of time. In fact, the UI transition adds three seconds further to the count. This is so fast that it rivals any cartridge-based system from the past."

I wonder how many people are having meltdowns over a few second's of loading times? I'll take a slower loading console and a revolutionary controller over an incremental update in graphics all day long

I've never seen the release of a new gen be so bogged down with what BC is doing.

I'm guessing it's because MS have gone in on BC (they don't seem to have much else to show at the moment!) And Sony have got it but it isn't the headline feature?

It's only BC games that have the longer load times, all the games developed for ps5 that we've seen have had extremely fast load times, probably due to the older games not being developed to make use of the SSD. Hopefully all new games will have similar load times to MM.

Also :p:D

Yes, fake account but still a little funny.

You’re missing the point, the proper next gen titles will be within a couple of seconds of loading between PS5 / Xbox, the BC titles tho are massively faster on Xbox.

It’s not slower though. MM 4 seconds to game, 1.5 seconds to load save.

BC is a little slower. But I’m guessing a patch will fix that

Find me a pc game that looks and runs as good as Miles Morales. That digital foundry video is impressive.!

Exactly it, they have no other drum to beat other than Terraflops (although that's the console war kids mainly) and BC.

You can't chuck and exclusive in there that Xbox can't even play :p I know it's only on BC titles, again that's why a big fuss is being made over it as there are relatively few straws to clutch at for MS currently.

Well... you can. It’s more demanding than any previous gen game. And still loads faster. Edit. Faster than anything since cartridge consoles. (Well.. others than some non demanding indie titles)

Watchdogs Legion, despite being bland as hell is a looker with RTX on.

The point was specifically XSX vs PS5, otherwise you can say Xbox loads Forza Horizon 4 faster than Ps5, it makes no sense if it's not a shared title.

There’s clearly an issue with the BC games with load times and the new IO on ps5. Won’t be long before it’s ironed out and al games load faster

Yeah it's likely that SX next gen games will load as fast, but at the moment there's none that can be tested.

MS back compatability is better than Sony, I'll agree there, with the support for all xbox games and improved loading times. Sony seem to have a different focus, more on next gen stuff and less on BC, as a lot of the reviews have said.

I'm not sure there is an issue as such, these games are running through various compatibility layers etc so I wouldn't ever be expecting instant load times on games that were designed to run from a slow 5,400RPM HDD.

It ultimately boils down to the MS implementation of backwards compatibility being better, which is nothing we didn't already know. It doesn't prove anything about either console's storage systems though.

no they won't, you still have to wait for all the intro videos/ads/animations to load before you even get to the menu. Highly doubt you will get publishers to retroactively remove those.
