120 on M25

I would expect you to receive a court summons, and depending on the outcome of the conversation either a fine and points, or a fine and a ban.

Be aware that if a ban is imposed in court, it's immediate - so don't drive to court or you might not be able to get back!

I'd expect (if the unit had a camera in it) 1-2 month ban and a means tested fine, hardly the end of the world in terms of offense and/or punishment, especially during the 'vid.

Eeek. Mostly likely pain is coming your way op.

However, M25 is covered in cameras, was pretty likely you'd get caught. As others have said, M40 tends to be more like a speedway, you'd be unlucky to be caught there (there are a few favourite places for the camera vans, but unlikely to be out at 12.30am).

For a custodial sentence you'd need to be guilty of more than just speeding in England. Scotland is different however.

Has the sentencing guidelines changed as I recall people doing excessive speeds being jailed before? Probably I guess after a certain speed it’s deemed as dangerous driving?

Maybe there were some other reason as you say and I don’t recall what the other reasons were

Woah thats a lot of replies.

Firstly, no im not a troll. Just made the account to post some opinions on. Ive been reading regularly throughout the day.

Secondly, im well aware it was lunatic speed. I am not denying im going to get in deep s#it, I just wanted opinions on the m25 speed cameras

Also, yes the motorway was empty in my immediate surroundings. There were lorries way ahead but in my immediate vision it was an empty stretch

Thanks for all the comments

In Scotland speed alone can be dangerous driving which can carry a custodial sentence.

If you got caught doing say, 165 in a 70 in the UK, would that be a fine and a ban then? I thought that would be prison to be honest.

At that speed not only should the car be crushed but also certain organs to ensure they cant reproduce ;)

Being serious though, I think the police will tend to go for dangerous at those sorts of speed.

There was some debate about this before. The 150% income is good for targetting middle earners, it does little to deter the very rich or very low paid

Friend of mine got caught on the M6 at 03:00 some time ago, his speed over the distance the cops timed him for was 110. He received a lengthy ban (20 months or something IIRC), a large fine and he lost his licence - he had to retake his test once his ban was up.

I think the OP is more retarded in thinking he could get away doing 120 on one of the most camera covered roads in the country.

I did 150 once indicated on a German road :p. Always my rule on UK roads is to never go above 100MPH as it is simply not worth the risk. Would hate to think of insurance costs after either.

Unless you're young and have very little in the way of NCD, you might be surprised by how little even a drink-driving conviction inflates your insurance premium.

Go to a comparison site and try a quote with and without a conviction.

... Unless with you're with admiral group because you'll probably get a letter in a few weeks accusing you of not declaring your conviction and demanding more money.

I feel like theres a story to be told here. Share you saltiness with us. :p

Definitely wouldn't recommend doing this with anything like your own details, etc.

They did it to me when I was trying to estimate how much my policy might rise if I modified the car. Few weeks later got a letter saying they would be debiting £££ due to my undeclared modifications. They then wanted me to prove the car was stock when I challenged them. Couple of days of arguing the toss before they decided to drop it.

Wow. Bunch of tosspots.

Honestly they are useless, I only use them to insure ****boxes when they are the cheapest, I wouldn't dream of using them to insure something I care about.

There’s got to me more to that story, or a serious history of dodgy driving. How does driving at 110mph in the dead of night deserve a 2-year ban???
