less than a week to go amd 6800 cards

scalpers and demand. I saw last night another major retailer saying that they will be unable to delivery the new AMD cpus this side of xmas. Its a joke atm trying to buy any pc stuff.
The high street place got in contact with me this morning telling me 5950x are on order and they had less than 20 when released and 15 were sold as retail and other remaining sold as a bundle.

Then the bad news came. He said none will be available for sale till second or forth week of 2021 for the 5950x and then asked about the 5900x he said that's the same and they had same amount as the 5950x when released. Then asked about 5800x he said let me check, he said I see some that will be sold as a bundle only and less than 5 again and no retail ones. I was hoping to use for a small ITX build even if they had a 5800x I would have been ok with.

I am also on their list to let me know when gigabyte 3090 and 3080 extremes and masters come in stock and he said we are going to discontinue these maybe because they are getting single numbers to less than 5 and some have come back with issues and didn't recommend them :-/ .. I was like ok but I want to be removed from the notify system as I keep getting messages saying no stock and other items in stock that I may like, of course old gen cards only they are trying to shift.

I then asked him about AMD cards coming he said there is no stock right now of any model but listing of cards will go online when released and they may get stocks that week from distributors but he can't see any incoming again till around new year. :-/

I can see 5950x and 5900x and 5800x bundles right now available but I don't want the bundles and the cpu is not retail and has 1 year warranty with the bundle and again I'm betting they are binning the OEM chips and selling off the naff ones with bundles and the good ones with OC full builds. So no thanks even if I can shift the motherboard.

Had a chuckle at this mate, I hope you said it with real disdain and sarcasm as you typed it! :D
There’s was genuine venom in my voice (well the voice in my head) while I was typing it.

when I rise to power I will make this nefarious activity illegal and punishable by public flogging for first offences, rising to castration for repeat offenders.

none shall escape justice.

ive noticed recently, that more 5700xt cards seem to be available. somehow i think stock for the 6800 series cards is going to be painfully low.

Whats odd is the lack of benchmark leaks on the lead up.
The nvidia 3000 and ryzen 5000 there was a lot a week or so before as the stock started to arrive.....

I mean there's been a lot of benchmark leaks, they've just been really inconsistent. Some have the 6800 thrashing the 3070, others put it consistently behind

So we won't find out the veracity until launch.

If what Purgatory said above applies more widely, it could mean a lack of shop employees getting theirs early and running benchmarks

Cant wait for the reviews showing you need the whole AMD eco system to get the same performance as an RTX 3000 card.

Considering the blow-out strength of the AMD cpus this time around, i don't see this as a problem. If the AMD CPU's were weak then yes, this would be a cause for concern.

I can't see anyone on this forum buying a brand new Desktop Intel chip unless they really need one for a specific reason.

I do wonder why there isn't more differentiation in the aesthetics of these products.

You can get some pretty understated cases, but for GPUs if it ain't a reference model it looks like a damn Transformer

5800x in short supply, sell out as soon as one appears anywhere in Europe - prices now rising on them

5900x havent been seen in stock since the 5th. Quite large numbers of pre orders reported by retailers.

5950x in very short stock at launch (as you say, high binned). I know uk retailers with waiting lists in the 100s.

Low end 5600x in plentiful supply.

We shall see how AMD perform but I still think demand > supply and its going to be a scalpers paradise again

Plenty of 5800x in eastern EU: £430.

Finland seller listed 6800 cards:
