Update: Post 91. They have now released something even worse...

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, they put out this complete atrocity of an advert. I couldn't watch the whole thing, such is the level of pure cringeworthiness.

What the **** are they playing at...

------------

I've unfollowed BMW on Twitter because lately their social media team have been posting puerile nonsense and insinuating that anyone who doesn't approve of their new design language should "get with the program" and "move with the times" rather than accepting that they might have screwed something up.

All I see are critics, reviewers, owners, enthusiasts, clubs, and anyone in-between condemning the direction BMW have taken with their design as misguided at best, and vomit inducing and embarrassing at worst.

Even aftermarket companies developing alternative front bumpers for as yet unreleased models wasn't enough for them to consider they might have made the wrong move. When has that EVER happened before? I'd wager the answer is never.

I think they need to sack the design team, sack the social media team, and start again.

Churning out disgustingly ugly cars and insulting everyone who has a problem with it on social media isn't the way to do business, BMW.

It's like they're trying to create their own Chinese knockoffs. I wish they'd bring back the shark nose bonnet. :(

I've seen several big, high profile, BMW fans who usually they can do no wrong for saying stuff like it looked better in prototype camo (when you couldn't actually see what it looked like). Seems like they are potentially going to do a Gillette.

Always sad when this happens when the self-awareness isn't there to stand back and realise they've taken a wrong turn and go back to the drawing board reading criticism as toxicity instead and becoming hostile.

The worst thing is they don't even need the grills on the ix there's no rad there so it wasn't wasnt an engineer saying we need more cooling, someone actually designed it that way for looks.

I also like how the picture they used is the only angle it looks good apart from the pub ashtray on the center console

From the recent beemers I've seen, I thought they were starting to look good but..........

Until I get to see and drive one.....

Oooff, actually! From those photos! Who did that and why!!!!

It's such a shame that the new 4 and M3/4 models have been ruined by the beaver teeth. The G20/G21 is a handsome car, a 4-series convertible would have been on the cards to replace my F33 in a few years, but it's completely off the table now.

They drifted away from a design that I liked before and came back to it, looks like they are starting that way again... only sales or lack thereof will convince them they have got it wrong.

I still quite like the new 4 but its right on the edge, I follow Joe linked to TRL and he's ordered a 4 and to be fair the car he is ordering looks good and he has seen one in the flesh so is better placed to have an opinion on the looks. I really didn't like the new M135 but having seen them on the road I think they are ok but no 2 door puts me off. Not actually sure what I will go for next (currently own a M240)

Sales team need to step away from the current tactic, its not going to help!

OK Boomer, eh? Well screw you BMW. I don't need to be insulted. I will remember that when it comes time to buy a new car.

I did see one of those SUV things somewhere online and assumed it was a Chinese knock off or a bad photoshop, that's pretty shocking design wise.

Fair play to BMW it's almost as if they're trying their hardest to become irrelevant in the transition to EV's. They took very promising early steps with the i3 and then squandered their advantage, then they said that the future probably wasn't electric, now it clearly is they're trying to claw back but then design stuff like this?!

If BMW tweeting 'OK Boomer' as a response to 'Go back to making BMWs' is enough to put you off buying their cars, were you actually that serious about considering one?

A **** taking tweet would struggle to get any lower on my list of things to consider when deciding which new car to buy.

Its worth clicking through to their Twitter account and reading some of the other posts and comments they have been sharing, and looking at the images in the link as well. Its not just this one tweet. Their twitter feed reads like they have put a 15 year old in charge.

I'm not looking to buy one at all right now. But when the time comes, then who knows. The point I am making is that a social media department making a slur against a large portion of the populace is not going to endear them to people. Why is an ageist slur acceptable when we don't find racist or sexist slurs acceptable?

I did respond to the tweet with a snarky half arsed comment suggesting they've lost their way and need to sack the social media team as well now, where before they only needed to sack the design team. "Sincerely, Acme, age 25. #notaboomer" :p

I also like how they picked the only non ugly part of the car to accompany that tweet. BMW do know how to make a good interior.

Hardly unusual, misplaced attempts at appealing to 'the youth' are rife across social media these days.

I think this is making an Everest sized mountain out of the smallest hint of a molehill personally, it's an absolute non issue. Getting upset over something like this is the absolute definition of being a snow flake.

And whether it's one tweet or 20, it still wouldn't come close to factoring into whether I thought a car was worth buying.

I'm personally really sad about the new direction they've taken. I am a big BMW fan - I've bought nobody else's products since 2006.

However for me the last great looking car they make is the current 3 Series. I'd imagine this will get the wacky treatment at the facelift so at the current direction of travel I'll probably buy a pre facelift one of those and hope it lasts me sufficient time to get over this chapter in the companies history. People said wed grow to love the Bangle era and most people never did, I see this as even worse.

There is surely a space in the market for a company to make cars that don't look like they came from a school project on 'cars of the future'?

I'm not sure where else I'll go if not BMW. A decent BMW is just so right in every area - great engines, great to drive, fantastic interiors, great infotainment and good looking on the outside.

Who are they trying to appeal with by taking that route on social media? Not many people who'd find that hilarious are buying £70,000 SUV's are they?

I think you're overreacting a little to be honest. I'm not sure why it bothers you so much what my opinion is.
