EV general discussion

When I switch to a low/free overnight charging rate this will be completely free motoring

For now :)

Once the move to EV is largely complete you'll be paying more to drive it than you ever were before, sadly.

The cost advantage is due to favourable tax treatment which can and will change. Though being an early adopter your savings now will subsidise your future usage for far longer than those of us who move later, so there is that.

Yep - it's not often early adopters pay less.

You can tell from the steering angle they thought they were in reverse, panicked when they realise they weren’t and mashed the go pedal instead of the stop pedal.

It’s the age old ‘unintentional acceleration phenomenon’ which tends to plague more elderly drivers but I’m sure will become increasingly common when most normal cars will do 0-60 in 6 seconds and have instant torque.

I’m sure the insurance company wasn’t impressed either way as they managed to mash 2 other cars on top of their own and damage other property.

launch control on taycan -

Driving off with Launch Control b Vehicle is at a standstill. b Readiness for operation established. b Steering wheel is not turned. b Drive position D selected. b Driving mode SPORT or SPORT PLUS activated. 1. Press the brake pedal with your left foot. 2. Quickly press down the accelerator fully and hold it down. A message appears on the instrument cluster. 3. Release the brake pedal within a short space of time. Vehicle accelerates to the maximum
doesn't sound like a good interlock process ? maybe he was confused

Highly doubt they engaged launch mode, that seems like a perfectly fine interlock process...

Surely they would have seen the reversing camera come on to confirm reverse? Big oopsie

was thinking, something like -
if you are used to a manual, and pulling away, L foot on brake, R touch accelerator, no noise(?)/revs to indicate what might happen, release brake.
- but, also, how does accelerator get damped for slow speed manouvers.

The same as any other vehicle really, calibration of the accelerator.

But to engage launch mode you'd need foot flat to the floor which you wouldn't do even in a manual, to be honest I'd whack it in reverse and coast off that drive way but that's just me...
