Deterioration in standard of driving

I'll hold my hands up. Since lockdown I'm doing less than 100 miles per month and I've become rusty behind the wheel. On a couple of occasions now, on the tiny journeys I'm now doing, I've arrived at the shops or wherever and noticed that my nearside mirror is still angled at the floor, from when I reverse parked onto the drive. So obviously my observation has become poor.

I'm sure many people who frequent the motors forum are doing much less miles. Has your driving standard deteriorated or are you still the epitome of motoring excellence?

Key worker here so still doing the same sorts of journeys, albeit without benefit of a fleet vehicle.
I have noticed a lot more other drivers behaving like pricks recently, though. Whether that is just Christmas behaviour or just lockdown deterioration I couldn't say.
 
I remain the complete and utter liability I was before lockdown was imposed.

Beware, for I may be driving near you!
 
My driving has always been "care free", and i am still doing high mileage. The only difference at the moment is that i am able to drive a lot faster :p

Same here!
In the office everyday and even with quiet roads, still careful. Love country roads though.
 
I've not bothered driving recently, roads are like an ice rink and my winter wheels no longer clear my brakes so she's just sat on the driveway getting sapped on by the tree :(

Are you 100% home based now? Wondering how you (jealous!) are getting away with living down in Cornwall :p

It's a doddle mate :)

I've worked from home for 8+ years now :eek:, so lockdown was fairly simple for me, at least logistically. It also helped that my companies platform moved from physical devices to virtual, so I know longer have to drive to datacentres all over the UK, Ireland and the EU.

Put it this way, when I first joined I put 60-80k per year on my cars, this year I've probably managed 6k and most of that would have been driving for the sake of it. So aside from taking a 70% pay cut I don't miss London at all, and all things considered I'm mentally wealthier and happier in every other way.
 
I haven't driven as much since lockdown started in March and have been working from home as much as I can, but I have still had to drive to customers a few times, I drove to places when we had no real restrictions except the 2m rule and regularly drive to the shops, so my driving is basically as it was.

After seeing 60% of people in the room at a speed awareness course not being able to tell you the speed limit of a road in a given photo, I wouldn't be surprised if Nasher was correct. It was both eye opening and slightly terrifying at the same time.

The 70% pay cut is the bit which i dont think i could handle, but i am very jealous of the lack of a tie to London and lack of mileage. 60-80k/year - wow. I "only" ever do a maximum of around 30 and that frankly feels like way too much on top of everything else.:)
 
You need a 70% pay rise just to afford to work in London lol. It's getting hard to recruit people to work there. Either they want all of their travel expenses covered or they turn the job down.
 
Indeed, i wouldn't consider going into Ldn without travel expenses. But i would imagine that WG had those as well.:)
 
Been driving throughout so my standards are pretty much same as ever but noticed a marked decline in general standards the last few weeks as the roads have got busier again - especially people pulling out of junctions, etc. with no regard for other road users causing myself or others to brake heavily, etc.
 
I've most certainly noticed a huge rise in the amount of people driving slowly, at times it's like driving through molasses. I put this down to having tons of inexperienced drivers on the roads who previously used public transport but want to isolate a bit so have bought a cheapo car instead. Nissan Micras are invariably the worst for it, in fact I think they've managed to surpass the Honda Jazz crowd in terms of their inability to get a move on.

Yes, I drive quickly. No, I don't drive dangerously. Fite me.
 
Ive been WFH throughout, my yes, i def feel less ‘sharp’ than before. A couple of times recently I’ve caught myself thinking that lockdown has relaxed my driving a little too much.

It coincides with changing from a light 2 seater coupe, to a big, wide estate and I’ve not driven enough to become accustomed to it yet.
 
Ive been driving so little that ive noticed myself having to make a concious effort to do things which used to be instinctive.

Frequent mirror checks is one of them.
