When will GPUs return to normal pricing....

Never known GPU stock to be this bad, there literally is no GPU stock anywhere, from 1650s to the latest ampere, same for AMD. Can see why pricing is going nuts, new and used market.

Some regulation is a good thing. Rampant capitalism is undesirable, unless you're a corporate CEO.
I agree with this, although some might have you believe the only alternative is communism which is completely untrue. In any case let's not get into the politics lol

I was looking around for 2080ti used GPUs but ridiculous pricing them too now!!!!

Bet the ones who picked up 2080tis for about £350 back when everyone was selling theirs because of the 3070 news are feeling real smug now!

Not at all in my view.
I hate cash as it’s stinky and full of harmful bacteria and viruses.
We should stop using it ages ago. I do console repairs and every time I get paid in cash I give it all to my girlfriend as I don’t want to deal with it.
Hate having coins in my wallet when I get change after paying with notes.
And cash is easily lost. But that’s just my personal opinion I literally hate everything about physical money.

Hopefully she washes her hands before massaging your ego

Along with those that picked up a 3080 at release prices, the amount they have gone up in just a few weeks is disgusting.

Well that makes sense, noticed a store has a few different 3080s in stock, but don't offer delivery. Only walk in if you happen to have a store with one near you.

I dug out an old invoice from 2015 and I bought two 980Ti cards for SLI on launch from EVGA for £650 each, that's about £725 each in today's money accounting for inflation. The 3080 (at RRP) is actually a pretty damn good price all things considered - I would hope that AIB cards would return to around £700-750 once all this GPU madness subsides.

except where can you buy at RRP, its a fantasy number.

I feel that those who say that consoles are such a great value and way more cheaper than PC gaming are the same ones who buy their high end smartphones on contract and go around saying they got them for free or thereabouts.
Let's not forget that this generation console games went up in price which is surely due to increasing hardware prices so to keep consoles at relatively affordable price the companies had to recover the costs in games and subscriptions.
If we look at PS5 for example the console is what £450.? add to that let's say £15 extra compared to PC for each game and maybe £35 a year for PlayStation plus subscription.
So if an average user buys 10 games a year for those prices and the lifespan of a consoles generation is 7 years that adds up to £1050 add to that 7 years of PS Plus (which without a doubt will go up in price in the future) that's another £245 which adds up to almost £1800 including the console purchase.
That price will give you 3 high end gpu upgrades over the console lifespan and each one will improve the gaming experience by miles.
Yes I know thats just for the gpu and the rest of the system needs to be upgraded at some point as well but who buys a pc just to game and literally not do nothing else with it.?
Consoles might be a better value but not by as much as some are making them out to be.
Leats not forget about game modding, mouse and keyboard gaming and the choice of how game should run or look which consoles can’t do.
I’m both a console and pc gamer and will only play PS5 exclusives when I finally manage to get one because I think gaming on a pc is far better experience due to the fact that I choose how the game runs and looks.

dont forget the £1000 OLED TV's been brought to supplement the consoles as well, and extra controllers at £50 a pop.

I did this with a 1080. When the 2000 series first appeared the 1000 series collapsed in price. I picked up a 1080 for peanuts, simply I didn't need a 2000 series at the time. Then people started attacking the 2000 series and the prices of the 1000 series went back up again. Things have changed since then, I have majorly updated my monitor so I am back at the deep in the queue needing extra power of a 3000 series. This time it's all gone wrong though. NVIDIA are now saying that there will be shortages until Feb, so I am resigned to the fact that I might not get one until March. Although we still don't really know the reason why, I suspect it is more than just "huge demand" although there is no doubt some people have been hysterically buying the 3000 series when they don't really need it.

Someone is lying about inflation. Just take a look in the supermarket. Inflation over the past six years has been a LOT more than the government has reported.

If idiots didn't pay 1000quid for a video card they couldn't charge that much for it. But if people are that sad and desperate then they will charge it.
you can apply that logic to everything... Seems a bit salty insulting people who either have money to burn or the desire to pay more to get a scarce item.

Exactly. You have to factor in shrinkflation, reduced quantity for the same money. Reduced quality for the same money. Wage stagnation and the value of GBP vs other currencies. Then there are global supply shortages pushing up prices. On top of all that is your own personal exposure to inflation depending on what you buy, services you use, credit you have etc. If you don't run a car you won't feel fuel price rises but road hauliers will put up their prices and you'll feel it when you buy goods moved by road.

Complicated, but anecdotally, I hear a lot of people complaining about the cost of living.

Yeah, I got a reference 980 in Feb 2015 (5 months after release) for £460 (effectively £510 of today's money), sold it for £90 in June 2019.

So in my mind a 3080 should be in the realms of £500, which is where the 1080 launched as well.

I think you can understand the resentment if you try hard enough.

People prepared to pay that much forces the price up for the people not prepared to pay that much.

Inevitably the latter group has to choose between being forced out of the hobby as it becomes more expensive, or being forced to eat beans on toast for a year to afford a new GPU :p

But I'll bet AMD and nV are looking at this situation and thinking, "If we keep supply low we can have these prices all year round!"

Just sold my Vega 56 for £50 less than what I bought it for in Jan 2019 :D:D. Definitely worth selling old kit for current high prices if you can get one of the new GPUs.

The house my parents bought in 1982 was appx £45,000 which converts to about £124,000 in 2017 value, the same house is valued at £193,000 - £236,000. So it's not as simple as converting £ for £ worth over time as there are a number of factors that influence the price of things.

Indeed, however housing is the worst analogy you could possibly use.

Fact is, the 2080 launch saw a price jump of ~35% vs previous x80 cards

780 was £550
980 was £520
1080 was £530
2080 was £715
3080 at £650 (yeah right) and you know this is only because AMD have become competitive

Yes, I mean there are people unwilling to be "ripped off" and are patiently waiting, but the more people give in and feed the fire the longer this will go on. The people buying now and paying inflated prices are indirectly hurting everyone.

That's just tough on 'everyone' though, isn't it? Shame people and take the moral high ground all you want, people are perfectly within their rights to exercise free will and get fleeced if they so wish. It's not incumbent on them to worry about the impact on the wider market.
