Radeon 6900 XT

:D

Amd gpu owners don't run benchmarks, benchmarks are for Nvidia shills :D
Yes this one was made especially to promote Nvidia's useless extreme tessellation. No one in his right mind used it in any game unless he got paid by Nvidia. Good thing AMD were smart enough not to enter in that race.

I've been around long enough to know you are wrong.

I benchmarked the crap out of my AMD Radeon HD5870 in Heaven back in 2009, it was released as a general teselation benchmark, Nvidia didn't even support hardware tesselation when Heaven was released.

Heaven was released in October 2009. Nvidia's first GPU that supported hardware tesselation didn't arrive until April 2010 - during that time, AMD had the fastest GPU's for tesselation.

Well most games now have tesselation in some form, so I guess it worked out?

I am not talking about tessellation. I am talking about extreme tessellation. Yes AMD cards had hardware tessellation before Nvidia but Nvidia went to extreme and the benchmark helped them to promote their agenda. Let's read here, this is the v2.0 of the benchmark, released just before Fermi cards came out :
"Changes include :-
More tessellation load.
Optimized engine.
Added several new art assets.
Introduced "extreme" tessellation mode."

Of course the games use tessellation and both manufacturers support that feature. But only one of them sponsored games to add extreme tessellation. There were no visual gains from extreme tessellation but huge fps drops for the cards that only supported a decent level of tessellation. So look Nvidia has double the frame rate in Crysis 2 because the devs used thousands of polygons for anything that could had been created with hundreds of polygons. Or they rendered an invisible ocean beneath the ground using hundreds of thousands of polygons.

After having used the 6900 XT for a bit the coil whine has improved, it's hard to notice in normal use and if I listen close to the case it sounds about as loud as the fans on the default profile settings under load. So not great but not a complete disaster either, most people wouldn't mind I think but it would be annoying for anyone who wants silence.
Yep gradually getting better to the point of not even noticable. Will probably end up keeping the card.

Managed to change power limit with MPT? I've seen someone saying that he raised the limit to 500W on an Asrock 3x8 card.
No, not really tinkered with it. I'm not much of an overclocker/computer enthusiast as some so I don't tend to play with gpu settings. Given that I'm happy with performance out the box it's probably not something I'll play with until maybe a few years down the line when technology steps up another gear.

I've fitted a new PSU and no repeat of the earlier problems yet (far too soon to rule anything out but all good so far). Unfortunately when the GPU isn't running hot enough to make the fans kick in I can easily hear the coil whine so I will be returning it.

I'm not as obsessive over silence as I used to be but having a high pitch background noise I'm aware of constantly isn't acceptable for four figures. Real shame as the 6900 XT ticks all my boxes otherwise.

No I dont think so. :)

For gaming, that is.

That's your personal opinion based on your your personal preferences and bias. I'm in the position that I can buy what I want at any price I think is relative to how the card meets my needs and wants. If you don't like it that's not my problem. That's why I thought your response was immature. Please don't judge me by your low standards.

I used Heaven and Valley for my Fury, Vega 64 & Sapphire Pulse 5700XT with tesselation set to normal and 2xAA. With my 5700XT I got a score of 2663, FPS 105.7 and max fps 221. For giggles just ran the same settings on my 3090 and got a score of 6377, FPS 253 and max fps 508. A tad faster!

Holy ****.
Had a small window of opportunity eairler around 11am at a big competitor.
Paypal kept kicking me back to log on.
Entered card details manually.
Never thought it would go through, or at least be put in a pre order queue.
Around 3 minutes ago I got a shipped confirmation.

6900XT Reference (Gigabyte) :D

Been trying since the 6800XT launch.

Time to get my Vega 64LC up for sale to re-coup some of the cost.
If I could only find the box.

Congratulations!

I know the feeling and i believe this gif is appropriate.

Luckily, getting my 6900 XT was easy as a big competitor of OcuK had them in stock for at least half an hour on the 22nd.

Very happy with my purchase.

It's been a long time since I've owned a GPU that can easily max out all the games i play at my resolution of 5120x1440 @100HZ HDR 10 Bit colour. :)

The 3090 is about double the performance of the 5700xt regardless so I don't see how your score proves that amd is bad at tesselation

I never said AMD was bad at tessellation. I just shared my scores and I was happy with my 5700XT until I got the 3090. The scores I shared were with normal tessellation not extreme. Happy camper.
