*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

We have waited weeks of nothing and this is what gigabyte says they are about to send
Is this some kind of practical joke?
How is this in any way acceptable?

Gigabyte and overclockers are dead to me.
Looks like it might be time to cancel. How do I get alerts for 3080 FE drops?

Same, this is ridiculous! By the time we get the GPU's they are "OLD". Between overpriced GPU's and delays I think everyone should get a discount of sorts for this ********. Since September that my £750+ are floating about and GPU is nowhere to be found!!

The 20 Series GPUs aren't even old yet, what are you talking about :D

An update has been requested but just as with MSI a response from ASUS / MSI can take days or longer they are just not that quick to respond but in their defence I suspect they are getting 1000+ of these kind of questions daily from all the accounts around the world chasing stock.

I for one hope that new products are not on the way as the priority has to be clearing backlog before new products.

Thanks Gibbo - just worried that those 8 have vanished and from experience its not likely they will ship another batch any time soon.

Why is everybody obsessed with a 20gb 3080 for $1000 it ain’t gunna happen, a 12gb 3080ti definitely $750
The reason there won’t be a 20gb 3080ti is firstly the huge scarcity of vram for manufacturers right now, would be a bad choice to make a card sapping more vram from stock when it won’t even need it, secondly a 1000 dollar card with virtually identical specs to a 3090 would be again illogical since NVidia won’t want to make the 3090 a redundant card, thirdly 20gb of vram is useless in terms of gaming, 16gb is generous enough from amd, anymore is simply a waste, nobody is going to be gaming at 8k and 4K gaming works well at 10gb of vram, 12gb will simply secure the 4K gap.

There are no shortages of GDDR6X memory, this is unique to the Ampere cards and is exclusively produced by micron for nVidia. The shortages reported relate more to SSD NAND Flash memory.

As for the VRAM issue, 10GB is already on the limit for 4K textures but if you game in 1440p or below you are correct it’s not an issue. It’s in the coming years that the 10GB will potential cause an issue as newer games based on the latest game engines are released. Given GDDR6X costs $6 per GB it’s reasonable to expect more from nVidia on the 3080.

I still think double the vram is a bit ott tbh, im predicting 12gb but 16gb is a possibility

It will either be 12GB on a GA102 3090 die since the memory bus is 384-bit, or if they keep the CUDA count on the GA102 3080 die the same it will be 20GB as the memory controller is 320-bit.

I think they’ll go 20GB as the Bill of Materials cost will be an extra $60 but then they’ll charge maybe $899 or $999 so maybe a $250-$350 premium. That’s more like nVidia’s typical business practices.

DLSS reduces the VRAM use though and tbh by the time VRAM actually hurts the performance of the 3080 it will probably be obsolete due to other factors anyways. Worst case scenario if you want to run the 3080 for 4 years etc you'd be looking to reduce some settings *shrug*

What do you mean by confirmation order / Everyone who orders are being placed in a queue?
Have you not been placed in one... If so you should probably contact OC.

Sorry yeah am in a queue am about 700 from 1500 I meant the confirmation about having the card in stock and they were posting the card to me, 4 months is a long time to wait at this rate it will be in the summer time before I get one I reckon.

Wonder what's up with Zotac...

Are all of their shipments just stuck somewhere?

They are just not getting GPUs to build with it’s not an OCUK thing it’s a worldwide issue.

My advice is if anyone ever see a 3080 in stock anywhere simply buy it and then cancel your current back order as finding these cards in stock anywhere in the world is extremely difficult and near impossible.

My only worry is the most efficient mining cards are 3080 and 3060Ti so is it just a coincidence that those two cards are also the ones shipping in smallest volumes and hardly ever available? We’re seeing a lot more 3090 and 3070 shipments which are not as good for mining.

The 3080 situation is terrible we are still sat on thousands of backorders and many of which are from the first hour of the launch day and I’ve never ever witnessed anything like this in my twenty plus years in this industry, the supply is way down and as to why this is really is an unknown, is it because of mining, lack of yield rates, unprecedented demand, limited production ability or something else. I hope it’s one of the latter and not because of the surge in BTC values in the past three months.

Im trying to order 1000’s of cards and am literally getting 10-20’s and I’ve spoken to our group companies throughout the world and they are seeing nothing better volume wise and I’ve even talked to competitors who also claim the same and the fact that these cards are rarely ever in stock anywhere and you can’t place an a pre order anywhere really tells you that this is a serious issue.

I hope for one that NVIDIA, AMD and board partners put the focus now on clearing back orders and meeting demand rather than releasing further new products they can’t supply and making the issue somewhat worse.

But they won't, don't they have 3080 Super and Ti due very soon?

Well let’s see but is it really OcUks fault or any other resellers fault for not being able to supply 3080’s when the manufacturer is putting resources into manufacturing of other newer products with no back orders, instead of focusing on the issue on hand?

Our backorders are well known to manufacturers and it is my personal belief the priority should be clearing backlog of those products.

Of course I get the need to release lower end products because that is how it works when a 3080 GPU fails it will become a 3070 or lower but there should not be newer faster versions until the current backlog is met and under control use the GPUs and resources to keep pumping out more stock of the cards with back orders since day one and first hour of launch!

The blame is not OcUK or any other reseller it purely on the manufacturer to produce more and focus on back orders.

The fact we have not even manage to ship backorders yet from the first hour of launch just shows how bad the situation is. :(
