EV general discussion

So got notice that my e-Niro has arrived in the UK and will be ready for collection next Friday (22nd). Honestly can't wait for it to be delivered especially having the PodPoint sitting outside glaring at me and the C'eed GT which is going to be returned :D

Thankfully handovers are still happening, even with COVID restrictions, and paperwork all being done electronically now
Nice :)

I had exactly the same - looking at this for 4 weeks before my Polestar 2 arrived. Better to be prepared and have the charger installed ahead of it arriving though :)

All the smaller battery / previous generation EVs have dropped quite a lot.

I reckon the Honda will top this chart in 3 years.

I should have kept my i3 60ah as as a run around but it was worth more than I paid for it. I'd love a Honda E as a 2nd car so maybe they will depreciate fast. Though I think a lot of people will just keep them despite the poor range.

I keep being amazed at how cheap the i3 and i3 Rex cars are now and am sorely tempted by a REX as it would be an utterly fantastic commuter (financially speaking!) ~120 miles from the 94ah model would cover about 90% of my daily usage with the REX able to kick in when the range is no use to me.

One annoyance though, it is very very hard to find one with a decent spec. 99% of them are without leather or sunroofs, have horrible wheels, whacky colour schemes etc.

I'm pretty pleased with my 94ah REX. You're right about the colours/wheels though, I managed to pick up a 'Fluid Grey' edition and the only things it doesn't have as far as I can see is driver assistant plus (just normal cruise) and the sunroof which I wasn't too bothered about. It has decent wheels, and no blue bits anywhere, I don't like the blue seatbelts especially so I'm glad to have 'normal' black ones.

It's the ideal school run/shopping/station (when I go back to the office) car.

I saw yours mate, looks very nice with the best wheels too. Really makes it look as close to a normal nice BMW as possible (if that makes sense!) :)

Annoyingly as well Id ideally want the car to be a late 16 or early 17 (66 or 17 only) to avoid the higher tax charge...the pre March 17 ones are free VED whereas the posts carry a £350 or whatever surcharge I think?

I need to run the fuel figures really, I don’t even know how much I spend at the moment.

Great news! Don't be upset by the range - it's this cold weather it's ruining the range :(

Ahh there are more things to be upset by than a few lost miles of range - but totally agree. The cold will always spoil everything that needs batteries. It'll get better when the weather gets warmer and then I'll be laughing :)

Nice :)

100% agreed. I was really lucky to get it installed just before Christmas, especially with the current COVID restrictions we're all in. Must admit, your Polestar is a stunning car.

Feels funny to have a "family" orientated vehicle when it's just going to be transporting me around mostly (as a single guy) and friends in the future :D

Our Ioniq goes in for its first service next week. It bonged up on the dash asking to be booked in. Was quite surprised as it has only done 4800 miles but hey, its a company car so I don't mind.

I have to be honest and say absolutely zero regrets. The deals on these now are absolutely incredible too

Meant to ask...do you just “granny” charge yours off a socket? Thinking that’d perhaps do for me with its smaller capacity battery than a lot of EVs, but maybe it is still too slow.

I was on this page but think it will get annoying long term. Reality is once you go to a variable tariff theres where maybe only in a year a charger pays for itsself to cram the charging into the low tarring windows. My charger next week and smart meter was cancelled as guy ran over at previous install. Plan was jump to Go faster for 5.5p. 8:30pm to 1:30pm. A smaller pack car could maybe go for the smaller windows that are even cheaper

I did for a while, and to be honest could have probably stuck with it, but I wanted a faster charger as I'm moving to Octopus Agile when my smart meter is fitted on the 25th (although apart from today Agile hasn't been great lately!).

I got the Pod Point tethered fitted, as it looked the neatest and is well reviewed. (See SDK's post for a pic https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/34457378)

It takes 13-14 hours fully charge my 60ah off a normal wall socket from empty. Thankfully my commute means I'm usually home with around 60% charge so it'll easily be fully charged in the morning on the off-peak tariff. If you're coming home with no range it'll be tight.

FWIW, I totally agree with your spec issues. I'm not in the UK, but every i3 here is poverty spec; very few have Pro Nav, let alone ACC or sunroofs. I just got lucky I guess; original owner forked out over €50k

So after going back and forth I think we (my wife) has finally agreed on a car we both like the look of.

I think we are going to go for the new Mokka, launch edition or whatever it is with all the bells and whistles.

Looks a great looking car and based on the 2008 should be a decent enough car.

That's a great choice. I'd get your order in sooner rather than later as we (I work for Vauxhall) expect demand to exceed supply. :)

I'd the price as good as the others you were offered?

Yeah, would be overly tight with a defecit each day after any days WFH i would think. My current contract is ~100mi round trip, with some days at another site approx 120mi round trip away. The range of a REX would suit this with not too much REX usage, but from your figures i guess i'd struggle to recoup the charge on any consecutive days.

That looks great, but i am a tightwad and to be honest i would just DIY a charger, they are around £350 as a starting point and i would install it inconspicuously anyway. I am a little muddied when it comes to going for an agile type tariff as our whole home is electric, which includes the boiler and creates a hefty draw through the daytime too. Thanks though, your REX is pretty much the ideal, it is unfortunately just so hard to find them like yours!

Thanks, indeed it seems appealing at first to simply not bother, MJTs timings put it into perspective just how slow a wall charger is, though. I would DIY the install with a cheap charger, so no big deal really other than the absolute nightmare that will be running a 6-10mm feed all the way out to where i will locate it.

Has the brexit deal had no impact on mokka ev import prices, ie they meet the new rules of origin, about battery/other parts ?
UK->eu export of Nissan leaf apparently have a question mark.

reviews look nice, can you get a weekend test drive ? like 2008ev has been publicising.

Thanks for the heads up, do you know rough delivery dates as yet?

I assume the car (launch spec model) will have things like remote warming etc from an app?

Cars and batteries have a 6 year period.
