*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

OCuk: cos our system can’t do it.
Me: WHAT!!!
That ENTIRELY depends on how you paid. Sorry but by choosing less traditional payment methods (paypal, Amazon etc) rather than a straight card payment, our hands are tied by anal service agreements. To prevent us from breaching said service agreements, our systems are hard coded not to allow certain things to be done to any order with those payment methods.

You are lucky because I am a game programmer and I need my card to do my work to be able to get into uni and I’m lacking behind because my current gpu can’t handle my game.
This card that should arrive will give me the technical boost so I can finish my work and get high marks.

Good luck with your studies bro! I hope it's not a battle royal game you are making!

Thanks and I’m not making a battle royal just because of fortnight. But I am making a 3D FPS maze game with ramping difficulty and player/weapon modifiers.
I need the 3080 because while debugging I have to have about 30x more gpu processes going on at the same time.

If you read my post I said “I understand that cost maybe an issue but I can’t even pay the difference for an upgrade.”
I can’t remember the exact amount but one of the 3090 upgrades cost about £240 and the 3080 ventus upgrade cost was £220.
So to me this means they do have the capability/money to upgrade and I’m even willing to pay some extra to get a damn card.

More expensive product has higher margin usually (at least in £), so that gives one much more wiggle space. Cheaper one can be very tight. Ergo, if shop must add £50 or so to the more expensive product, they might do it. But if it's £200 to the cheaper one - forget about it.

Decided to say **** it and just picked up a 3090 Founders Edition in the drop today. I believe some are still available. Pre-order cancelled. Thanks for playing everyone. Feel a bit sick, but glad to have it sorted! I was so far back in the queue I'd likely never get one anyway...
What's the process for snagging one? I know where they appear but how do you have any idea when?

Just a note to make people could give a “donation” which magically is the same price as an upgrade and as a token of thanks gibbo upgrades the persons card for “free”
If you know what I mean

I refuse to pay £1,399 for a card just because the "affordable" version is very hard to find in stock. Whilst I can understand why others would at this stage, it just doesn't stick with me personally. I feel like i'm just playing right into Nvidia's hands and at the end of the day I'm determined to walk out of this with my 3080 at MSRP.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to say. Feel free to delete this post if not, but there are Discord servers like 'PartAlert' that have notifications when drops happen. 3080 drops vanish instantly but 3090 ones are usually gettable.

Not good news, my 3080 suprims appears to be DOA, not using a riser cable and have updated bios but the motherboard isn't detecting it, I don't think I've ever been so sad
have you tried uninstall the nvidia drivers and reinstalling? or is that a stupid question to ask?:)

Did you disable the legacy boot device setting in Bios as some were getting beeps on boot with 3000 series fitted with that setting enabled. (I will come back when I remember the name for it).

EDIT: Compatibility Support Module (CSM) < for older non UEFI boot devices.

Also mess with your PCI-E Gen speeds.

Maybe OC should use this to secure some stock for ppl whom paid for the product. Aparently cards are landing somewhere, but not here. :-/

I did warn the next couple of weeks was looking dry on 3080's and indeed it is very dry, and I will be honest here and say I feel the next reasoning for lack of shipments will be Chinese New Year, so I really think we won't be see many 3080's now until after middle February / early March time, there might be the odd surprise but on the whole I do not see a decent ramp up in volume now until March/April simply judging from production in previous years and the delay CNY always creates.

... also this.

At this point I begin to wonder if this is even legal to keep our money without even knowing when this is going to be availble.

Very handy to know, just in case:p

Think You are mis remembering, difference in price what they bought them for, making a loss of £20 each on a few cards is a bit different to making a loss of £140 each on a couple of hundred, hence why it was not done.

Yeah, I feel more or less the same. So long as I don't have to pay VAT twice, Customs Duty is only about 10%, so about €70 or thereabouts. That's not too egregious. It still makes sense to wait in the queue, if we end up being gouged for VAT twice though, then it becomes a less attractive prospect.
Shouldn't VAT be returned by OCUK, since it is not required for export anyway?

They are just competitors also getting an extremely tiny trickle of cards. But instead of having a queue like OcUK they are operating a fastest finger first 'lottery'. This is much more open to bots and scalpers and frankly I prefer OC's system. It's not their fault there are hardly any cards.

But ultimately that's why I decided to get a 3090. I've spent enough hours on that click 'lottery' that it's worth me spending £500 extra to just get one and at least not risk some dodgy ebay deal where I'm supporting scalping AND getting 'only' a 3080 for that money.

The fastest Finger First Lottery is down to Nvidia not the competitor who just puts up what Nvidia allows, FE wise.

As somebody posted earlier, good idea to keep trying as they manually check orders, Bots and non UK / NI orders are cancelled and cards put back in pot.

3070's and 3090's are always there for up to an hour or lot more, 3080's go in less than a minute usually.
