Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

I dunno man, this is pretty unprecedented. I'm even giving Virgin Media benefit of the doubt for not having appropriate capacity on their network... ya know, not predicting this whole global pandemic/lockdown sitchy.

Even Reddit admins are issuing guidance to WSB to split threads up quicker than they are, lol.

Remember T212 was down pretty much everyday at the start of US trading during all the fun last year, so the company has form.

Is anyone here with Freetade? The £3 per month model doesn't look bad, but I saw there's a 0.45% commission on currency change when buying foreign stocks. Also no demo of their platform to test out.

Fair. I only did T212 to get the free share on sign up. Have a couple hundie in there doing not a lot.

Quick question regarding buying into funds with HL. If I bought £100k into a specific fund and it grew to £110k over time. What's the process of cashing out? The buy and sell price is the same if I look at a fund so can I get my full £110k out or do I need to wait until a certain time and that will dictate the sell price?
Fund prices usually get updated once per day around noon. If you put in a sell trade before that, usually cut off time 1100 but depends on fund, then trade should execute that day, else it will sell next day. You never know what the sell price will be with funds but it's usually stable.
Also don't use HL for 100k as the fees are high, better to go with ii.

Once sold cash will be in HL/ii then just choose withdraw to bank account.

This is too much like gambling for me I think.

I see it. I react too late. I lose out. That's how its often gone with bitcoin.
Looks like that is now entering the main markets.

Big money to be made, especially if you're an influencer

In hindsight what platform would be the next best?
Wow.

Looks like a rich man to begin with though ;)
It's misleading, he started with 50k which isn't insignificant but its a lot less than the images show.

So is this some sort of coordinated pump and dump thing like crypto but with stocks?

Bit confused to what’s going on.

Not sure it's pump and dump. Effectively the hedgefunds thought that due to the way the world is moving (digital only etc), they thought it was dying, so they gambled (a lot) and borrowed shares expecting them to drop (shorting), this however was before and during a new CEO taking over... new consoles coming out etc etc, the subreddit realised and realised that if they all bought in to the growth of the company, the stocks would grow and they'll be getting richer but screwing over the guys who have been screwing the system for years.

It's grown and grown.

Someone will give a much more eloquent summary but... a big investment firm sold some contracts that said GameStop was all but worthless and bet on the price going down.

Some nut case bought up all of these contracts, and through some shrewd corporate moves, GameStop actually starting to go "up". Reddit saw this chap who everyone thought was a nut case making mad gains and holding his position when any other person would have sold.

Internet goes mad, target becomes to bankrupt the firm who sold the contracts ensues... skies the limit as all of the underlying firms behind the dodgy contracts get out, which can only pump the price even higher.

Basically, some chaps at Melvin Capital are having some very sleepless nights.

Feels like exactly that.
Jump in early enough and ride the train. Jump in at wrong time and crash and burn
I genuinely feel like when T212 came back up and we saw our dip, that was the last shuttle going up.

Looking forward to how the market opens tomorrow, I'm on a site visit on Friday so need to play tactically!

@Jokester - This is a good way of looking at it from the shorting position.
