Nice!

I especially like the sound of Aji Orange Colorado. I've got some Pasilla Bajio in the germination station too :)

One benefit of plugs over seeds is even if your seeds germinate they can still have issues.. I just had to conduct emergency surgery on my Skunk Chocolate seedling, he was still wearing his seed case as a hat and it had dried rock solid:

A few careful snips with some needle nose shears and he was free, hopefully unscathed

I fired up the propagator for the first time this year at the weekend. All seeds from the Devon Chilli Farm:

Ring of Fire
Hungarian Long
Aji

I've grown RoF before but the last two are new ones to try this year.

Is that growing under a heat/lighted propagator?

Did anyone do any overwintering? A couple of mine have started to grow small leaves from where i cut it back last Autumn.

I'm a bit concerned with some of them though, the stems have gone rather brown as if they've completely shrivelled and died. Will keep watering and see what happens over the next couple of months.

He's currently in a small 70x50cm grow tent with a 100w LED (SpiderFarmer SF1000). Temps 24-28 and humidity 60-70%.

I assume that bulb is providing the heat too? That's quite some power to run. Is that left on all the time, or just when it's dark?

Yes the light keeps it pretty warm, the grow tent is totally light tight so the light is on 16 hours a day. Costs about £7 a month or so

Do you expose it to natural light for the remaining 8 hours of the day? Assuming when you say it's "light tight" that means that daylight can't get into the tent, so you've gotta take it out each day?

They get no daylight at all. All the light comes from the LED grow light.
Some of them will be heading out to the sun in the spring though.

Seeing posts about grow lights has piqued .y interest.

I start all my plants off in a South facing bedroom window and they usually do quite well but we've had a complete lack of sun for days on end and it only seems to be the start of the bad weather here.

Are there any decent and cheap options for helping my plants get a good or better than usual start?

From reading around I've noted quite a few people use a couple of fluorescent tubes and buying a 2ft fixture may be a way for me to go.

Yea CFL bulbs are a good shout for starting out seedlings. 2 foot, 2 bulb fixture should get you about 50w which would be plenty for a fair few little plants. They run cool so you can get them nice and close too

Still got a load of peppers from 2019 and last year so won't be growing any more plants this year. I didn't bother overwintering any and left them in the greenhouse to die but 7 of the 14 are still green and showing signs of life so I'm going to see what happens to them in the next few months. I'll just water them all once every few weeks and see how they survive the impending artic life :D

First time in here! I grew some chilli plants last year but lost track of what I had! One has grown red peppers that are maybe jalapeño level and I overwintered that and another. One is 5ft tall, other is maybe half that, so I think two types, leaves also being different!

This year I'm liking the look of the fancy plugs in the link several posts up. I also want to try hydroponics on at least one plant. Has anyone done that and also still left outside? I'm not sure I'm ready to go into lighting yet :).

You could do a kratky hydro outside quite easily, next level up from that would be to get a solar airstone (pond supply) and rock a DWC.
You could also use a solar pump to do an NFT type jobbo with PVC tubing.

you can use regular house bulbs CFL/LED if you want even if it's just so start your seedlings off early before the good weather arrives.

just get the highest lumen daylight temperature LED bulb you can find in wilko or somewhere.

you probably want to try and keep the bulb about 6inches or so away from the plants so with one bulb you can really only do like 5 plants or so and as they get bigger you might need to add an extra bulb

Ah I was thinking to try this to get them started too.

Is this a rubbish buy? I like it has the e27 is it, thread, so if the LEDs start failing there are other options. It then becomes a not badly priced set of flex arms!
