When they are back in stock, which would you buy & why?

Currently saving up and can probably get one next month.
Leaning towards the 6800XT as it has more memory,

Currently using a GTX 1080.
 
I just bought a 6800xt, it depends what games you play, for warzone and battlefield it beats the 3080 by quite a bit, but then say Cyberpunk_2077 the 3080 wins by quite a bit, so look at bench marks of games you play.
You probably have more chance at getting a 6800xt than a 3080 at the minute also around 100quid cheaper

Gaming at 1440, mostly playing cyberpunk 2077, the division 2, and Ghost recon series games at the moment.

Not too bothered about ray-tracing as can't use it with 1080 anyhow.

If you're not bothered about RTX or DLSS in Cyberpunk / other games and game at 1440p, then I would say 6800XT.

Just get which ever you can find though

The best card is the one that you manage to buy.

Look back at articles from 2017 and 2018. This supply problem could be around for some time. It's possible that one or both of these cards will have been superceded by the time stock is readily available.
 
Also depends on the price you can get a card for...... If you're talking about £900+ 6800xt (don't think there is anywhere which is selling for its MSRP???) vs a £650 3080 FE, makes no sense getting a 6800xt

The VRAM comparison is redundant at this point, Hardware Unboxed video from above makes this obvious where in some games 3080FE does better at 4k than 6800XT. Which makes the VRAM argument more complex and oversimplifying it won't do. More VRAM doesn't mean better performance in short.

Depends on prices. Rrp is useless, 3080 can't be found anywhere, 6800xt can be found at 50% higher price than 3080 lol

Let's face it mate. Both cards are not really 4K cards. The sweetspot for these is 1440P 144Hz.
 
I'd go with a 3080 since performance is similar between them both but the 3080 has the better feature set, DLSS, RT, shadow play, voice, and the NVENC encoder.
