6800XT or RTX 3080

Depends on prices. Rrp is useless, 3080 can't be found anywhere, 6800xt can be found at 50% higher price than 3080 lol

If you couldn't get one that doesn't mean they don't exist. I got one at MSRP so it's not impossible.

Let's face it mate. Both cards are not really 4K cards. The sweetspot for these is 1440P 144Hz.

100% agree, tried both 3070FE and 3080FE and even though Nvidia advertised 3070 as a 1440p card it's in the low 100s in terms of performance compared to 3080 which I find is perfect for both 144hz and 165hz at 1440p.

Still haven't seen a fe 3000 series for sale. Especially the 3080 miners dream card ATM. Not sure how you can compare OEM to Fe choice, good luck getting either ATM.

I would have got one last week if Barclays hadn't decided it was a suspicious transaction and made me jump through hoops on my mobile by which time they had all gone so it is still possible to get an FE at Msrp.

So yes, point 1
Very doubtful you'll find either at RRP I expect for quite a while

You can however find new 3080s at 50% higher than RRP. Just depends what you're willing to spend

I got £720 for my used 2080Ti with a good warrantly left on it, then paid £1000 for a new sealed 3080. Yes, I got scalped comparing it to RRP but the money back from the 2080Ti covered a big chunk and it runs much cooler and quieter.
With FPS capped at 97 in Warzone it sits around 80% usage and 55c most of the time on a fan speed of 45%. The 2080Ti would occasionally dip down from 97fps and run at 100% usage and fans flat out with the same fan curve im running now (0-45c - 30% fan, then line from 45c to 80c - 100% fan)

I know I got extremely lucky but I got my 3080FE week after I decided that I want one. I appreciate they're really hard to get but not impossible.
Understood but you can say the same for all of the cards no? Depends how much sleep you need and or work you need to do :D:p but seriously good luck to anyone after any card atm cause it's a cral situation...

This is what I've done, paid over the odds for a 6800 XT but equally got about £165 more for my 1080 Ti than it was worth a few months ago. Taking that into account I'm only paying about £50 more than I normally would so I'm happy enough.

This is a new card though, tried to hold out for a new 3080 but they vanish in seconds, even with stock alerts on. I'm not particularly fussed on RTX/DLSS right now and just want the additional performance (likely to go 34" UWQHD monitor wise soon too so need something to push the extra pixels!).

Same for me, I got £570 for a 2 year old MSI 2080 Ventus which cost me £544 brand new.

I would expect it to sell for under £400 without the shortages which brought the overall cost of my 6800xt to the equivalent normal cost of £690 for a Nitro+.

In my case it was worth the upgrade for my Ultrawide but obviously not for everyone.

There just isnt a point hanging around waiting for a 3080 / 6800XT for RRP at the moment unless you like really waiting a long time.
People on here were saying to get rid of 2080 / 2080ti cards before the 3080 was released and they dropped to 200-300
Held out and got £730 instead. It’s impossible to predict the future

Ive had a UWQHD (Acer predator x34) for a while now. Great monitor. 120 / 144 hz would now be ideal but i got the monitor when i got a 1080Ti so no way could have drove that then.

In stock is king, but your wallet is what really pulls the strings. It's not worth paying 4 figures for any current generation card whatsoever, including the 3090. Unfortunately I don't have any other suggestion as the market really is that bad.

If you can wait I'd advise doing so, otherwise it's camping stock alert Discords and the like, and that's demoralising and a waste of time.

This is it, I flip-flopped for ages and even put in a request to cancel the order (early buyer's remorse) but then I thought I may as well pay a bit more and start enjoying the performance now.

True, my friend had the same monitor and it's why he went for a 2080 Ti a couple of years ago as the 1080 couldn't provide the performance he wanted in newer games.

It is, I'm still on the lookout for a 3080 for my brother and they disappear impossibly quickly. Last night for example, about 6 stock alerts at another competitor and all gone before you know it, despite being sat at my PC at the time the alert came through!

If you can get close to 4 figures for last gen cards, then why not? and/or if you have loads of spare cash due to nothing else being open!

I would say the market is good at the moment, just not if you have to buy all new parts due to high demand.
The latter is demoralising though as you think great, im right on this alert... then no stock for the hundredth time.

Also, I see no point at all pre ordering as pre orders are a total waste of time. They take your money then no card until there is stock, which could be months

In short, if you have the money and want either card they are easily found. You'll just have to pay 50% more. Both cards are about equal
