*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

I am no expert either, but I think you are right, its ASICs for Bitcoin and GPUs for Ethereum at present, but it changed from GPU to ASIC for Bitcoin as the mining hash rate difficulty increased, and the same is happening to Ethereum.
It seems that GPUs end up costing more in electricity that they actually generate in mining revenue.
If anyone is an expert on crypto mining here please shout up :-)

I am a simple soul, I just want to get my hands on the Ventus 3080 I ordered 5 months ago and get back to X-Plane and FS2020.

That may be true now, but, the speed with which you can mine Ethereum depends on the hash rate of the mining rig and the continuously changing difficulty level. The latest Nvidia RTX 3090 has a hash rate of 120, whereas an ASIC hardware Innosilicon A10 Pro has a hash rate of 500. The guys using GPUs will soon be outclassed putting profits out of reach.
Cant happen fast enough as far a I am concerned.

Nope you can't count on that... at least in 2021.

The A10 is a great asic. But look at the current price to get one. 3080 are more profitable and can be re-sold easily if the ETH value goes down.
So yes, in théorie Asic should take the lead, but the risk is still to high. Forks can make them useless, and you need a crypto which can keeps it's current value for months (or goes up) to be profitable.

The A11 is already available for preorders but current price is 20k for a delivery in june. It is a BIG gamble.

But there is a long term solution on its way. If you have a look at the ETH 2.0 roadmap you will see the goal for 2022 is to move from a proof of work concept to a proof of stake.
When this will be done, mining will be over and surprisingly, ETH value should go up significantly because the transaction fee would reduce the number of ETH available instead of helping miners to generate more coins.

2022 or 2023 is my guess for the end of GPU mining

So no MSI Ventus cards being shipped, but MSI MEG Aegis Ti5 Gaming PC is available and it contains a RTX3080 card. Wonder if that's where they are going? Wouldn't think they need RGB on the GPU as the box lights up like a Christmas tree on the outside.

No. And, respectfully, if you had read through any of the dozens of pages in this thread where the SI builds are talked about, you would know that allocation for SI and retail are completely separate.

Whether it was intended as a joke or a shady comment, or something else, stuff like this only promotes more outrage and misinformation for others who are looking for info.

Sorry about this for those of you waiting for product still, but it looks like things are going to get worse not better:

https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/apple-claims-half-of-tsmc-5nm-production-capacity-for-2021.html

Seems Apple are at it again, having booked half of TMSCs output for 2021, Qualcom has taken 24% leaving AMD with just 5% and Nvidia at a lowly 3% ! Fortunately Nvidia is also using Samsung but it really does show who the big market players are.
I think you've missrsad the article, apple secured half of 5nm. AMD still have most of 7nm. This obviously will be problematic when companies move to 5nm, why could apple need tsmc for 5nm I have to wonder. Seems an off move considering there move to arm.

no sure how to get the word out, but I'm feeling vindictive, would love an old community rally to force miners and scalpers to sell GPUs at a fair large loss when supply improves and mining crashes. nothing more than 50-60% of MRSP or something similar. they've made a bad situation a lot worse.

It's annoying that cards are being scooped up by miners for sure but you can hardly blame them. It's not their fault that graphics cards happen to be the best hardware available for what they are trying to do.

Scalpers are less innocent but again are just taking advantage of what they are permitted to do. As long as they are allowed to sell for far more than MSRP there will always be dopes willing to pay.

Honestly regulation is the only thing that can affect miners, not some rally.

I really wish I had the cash to pre-order at launch, trying to get one now is just awful, if I knew I was xxx in the queue it would be a lot better than my current situation which is trying to outdo bots at 4am lol.

I was Position 6 on the last update...

I got the shipped notification Monday, but it was after 8 oclock so... DPD got a bit confused. Had my hour timeslot for today so should be here soon!
hold up. i'm position 9th and i have had nothing from OCuk and now i should be in 3rd.

Hmm, wonder if its 10 cards that were expected and another 5 as posted today or there was 1 cancellation (making Neale 5th) and only 5 arrived with another 5 due

I have read through the many posts about SI allocation and was not referring to OCUK et al. but MSI themselves.

makes sense but its weird that the shipment didn't come as 1 batch of 10 instead of 2 batches of 5 because they where all sent at the same time, also it is weird that there such a big delay between the first and second batch
