Hi,

I have been on car allowance at work for a few years, but am now considering goiing back onto a company car.

We have a BMW330e on the list, M Sport Pro with tech pack.

Are these decent motors, what are the pro's and con's please?
Cheap tax with them been hybrid and looks good performance = is making me seriously consider it.

Literal definition of rep mobile. Most with the chargers still in sealed bags in the boot. Colleague had one, seemed decent.

The charged range is a gimmick (tax saving measure) anyway. Who wants to charge their car every 30 miles.

It's simply a hybrid.

Makes s lot of sense, 330i on pcp would cost a lot more, X3 and X5 hybrids also cheap company cars. 330e wins loads of awards, so good choice.

You say that as if it claims to be something else?

The person was saying no one uses the charger.

Follow the conversation please.

It seems @dLockers understood my reply to his post.

I'm not sure what you achieve replying to one sentence out of context.

Yes... So the hybrid 330e is still a hybrid. Fascinating observation.

Jeez, what is wrong with you. It is advertised as a plug in hybrid and the conversation is about how no one uses that.

You a Liverpool fan or something?

It's advertised as a plugin hybrid, so it's a hybrid. It's still a hybrid whether it's plugged in or not, what else would someone expect it to be?

I don't think they should be given the tax cuts which they are tbh. People buy them for the wrong reasons when a 20d would be the correct choice but dieselgate. They are not a replacement for a diesel motorway cruiser, expect no more than 35mpg long distance. For shorter distance driving and charged daily it works well.

If used as a 'normal' hybrid without charging then honestly it becomes really annoying, it's just a never ending cycle of engine stopping and starting literally every 2 seconds in town driving. I find the hybrid doesn't do anything to improve efficiency when used this way.

You simple?

A Plugin Hybrid is a distinct category of Hybrid vehicle. There is also Mild Hybrids and full EVs. This one is distinctly marketed as a PHEV rather than a HEV or MHEV.

The reality is though that the PHEV feature is pathetic and simply a way to meet the black and white interpretation of the rule rather than the spirit of the rule.

So as a type of hybrid, it fits into the category of a hybrid car. Glad that's been clarified.

A PHEV will still work as a hybrid vehicle without being plugged in, so if anything the question is more like why wouldn't you make a hybrid car plugin these days? Some will take advantage and do well, others won't and will get the other benefits of hybrid cars via regen etc.

Everydays a school day, no need to be ashamed. Your second sentence is also very true. Now wonder why PHEVs even exist in the first place given your statement?

I'm not sure we really needed a lesson in how a hybrid car is a hybrid but thanks anyway I guess.

Why do they exist? Because the Toyota style non plug in hybrid is limited in comparison, especially for tax purposes. A plugin covers all the bases whether people plug them in or not.

Someone who drives less than 30 miles a day, presumably. Which is quite a lot of people.

It's a shame they tend to pair them with thirsty petrol engines and small fuel tanks which ruins the range, a plug in hybrid diesel that gives huge range out of town and zero emissions in town sounds like a great idea.

This is one of the more bizarre exchanges I've had on OCUK. Your second paragraph is literally what the point of the conversation was that you kept replying to in an obtuse manner.

It's a PHEV with a pathetic range marketed at people eligible for company cars as it has a tax break. Hence the first few posts.

I just don't get the point of stating the obvious as if it's some sort of insight. Yes it's a plugin hybrid vehicle and if you don't plug it in it's a hybrid vehicle. No ****, what else would it be?
