*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

Nvidia posted record earnings for 2020 Q3 and is set to do the same again for Q4 so production can't be that slow and the cards must be going somewhere.

This is why monopoly of companies is terrible for the consumer, particularly by Nvidia. They can't resist using the advantage to make huge profits!

If there were 3 or 4 PC GPU manufacturers selling us good gaming performing GPUs, this would never have happened
Nvidia have been battling their only PC rival ATI/AMD for decades, going as far as forcing game devs to make games that only worked well with their cards.

Try buying any of the following:

XBox Series X
Lay-z-spa hot tub
RTX-3080
Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc 105 Road Bike (larger size)
Yamaha Digital Piano CLP-745
Porsche 911 GT3

Those with jobs have money to spend, but there’s nothing in stock to spend it on other than booze and ready meals.

So true. I really want a new techy toy and after I got a big monitor through work, thought I'd upgrade my 7 year old computer. Latest gfx cards - nowhere to be seen. Ok...not a lot out on the PS5 at the moment but stuff will come out, and Horizon is due earlier in the year, so will upgrade my PS4. Nooope. Give up and look at even X-box given the hype about gamepass and inability to use it all fully on the PC without the aforementioned graphics card update - also nope!

Someone take my money! :p

I agree with why monopoloy is bad for customers, but they are a company here. Their aim is profit. Why shouldn't they use the advantage to make huge profits if the demand is there for their products? That's how all business works - supply and demand. If demand was massively down and they still had an abudance of supply, you wouldn't be saying "let's buy their products anyway, just to make sure they don't suffer too much. No need for them to drop prices".

I wonder if Apple switching away from Intel has anything to do with this, and the fact that Intel are no longer the force they once were. Their wafer fab is in Manila and so far as I know doesn't produce for anyone else.
Apple just booked half of TSMC's 5nM production for this year and Qualcom took another quarter, If Apple aren't buying from Intel and volumes haven't changed then the silcon has to come from the foundries other manufacturers use. There seems to be chronic underestimation of just how big Apple is in terms of manufacturing and how their decisions affect the market.

Meanwhile Zotac hasn't exactly impressed gamers with its tweet towards crypto miners:

They removed the Tweet pretty quick after receiving an 'avalanche' of criticism, but it shows the way GPU makers are thinking.

does that mean Zotac approve of their cards being used for mining?

The new GT3 only launched this week, so I'm not surprised you're finding it hard to buy one!

Haven't come to gloat but he's probably not, however juvenile his comment. I've managed to get 2 3080's and a 3070 without really trying.1 was from a forum user that was kind enough to sell one of two he'd ordered and sell at the price he got it for. The other was for a friend that was after one, as was the 3070. I work full time and have small kids so my time is spent, but it wasn't incredibly difficult to get one. I had more trouble getting my PS5.

Good luck to everyone still on the hunt, but as someone that was sub 1000 in the TUF queue here, if you put a bit of effort in I'm sure you would have better luck elsewhere.

These posts possibly annoy me more than the stock shortage!

Sure, these cards are easy to get, there are hundreds in the MM selling for RRP! Just because you got lucky, right place and right time, does not make it easy to pick up a new card!

I've been following Twitter feeds and discord alerts for the past 4 months and still not got a 3080 (though I refuse to pay well over the RRP).

If it's so easy, them please purchase cards for all of us and kindly sell them on to forum users for the price you got it for!

What this all ultimately boils down to is greed along the entire length of the chain from manufacturer to end supplier. They have taken advantage of a perfect storm of situations and used them as an excuse to further boost profits. Defend them all you want this is the reality of business.

My card was shipped to Ireland on Jan 7th after waiting since sept and still no idea when I'm to expect it a month and a half later after dpd fuckup and no reply to webnotes 2 days ago after leaving it for another few weeks ....seriously lads?....

Greed? Is that not just business...? Supply and demand. You charge what you think it's worth and what people will pay for it.

Tbf companies like Apple seem to manage ok especially considering more people buy phones than high end Gpus.

My wife recently ordered the new 12 pro max. had a choice of spec and colour, paid msrp and arrived a coulple of days later. No need for bot alerts or spamming F5.

These companies have had 5 months to sort out GPU supply issues and yet some people who ordered 1 hour after release are still waiting for their cards, it's a disgrace really.
I'm sure at the root of it Nvidia is controlling this situation, not sure why?? but it's probably a financial reason, that's all they care about! but it's certainly put me off, would just love some competition from another big tech company and I'd drop nvidia just like that, horrible company.

Filing this under “man discovers capitalism”.

They have competition, AMD (although they aren't exactly rolling in stock either), AMD's cards are just as powerful as Nvidia's and offer a slightly better price/performance ratio. However, Nvidia are controlling the market with technology.

There's only one reason why you should buy a 3080 over an 6800XT, Ray Tracing, a technology which nobody cared about a little over two years ago but Nvidia did an excellent job of selling the concept so that enthusiasts lust after it.

Then there's DLSS, a technology which essentially tricks your eyes into accepting upscaled textures in order to deliver higher frame rates.

Nvidia succeeded in moving the market to suit their technology rather than creating tech to suit the market. It's genius really.

That's very interesting, thanks! I know i for one am looking at 3080s etc. more is just historical. My first graphics card was an Nvidia and I have a soft spot because of that. My first AMD card is my crrent RX 570 and I'm just generally under the impression that they lag behind Nvidia (since they used to earlier). Not really done my own research into it.

Are there any benefits that the 6800XTs offer over the 3080s? From the little I know, the stock situation isn't much better for them either.

Just to carry on the conspiracy theory, aren't AMD doing the same thing? They announced the 6000 series would be in short supply through Q2.

Trying to get to my head round how it's so profitable for Nvidia to restrict stock. They're still selling FE cards at RRP, in limited numbers. Is it a conspiracy between Nvidia and the AIBs to artificially inflate pricing?

To me it it's a "fill yer boots" situation, with AMD production struggling, as they could sell bucket loads of extra cards to gamers and miners, but they don't seem to be able to. I think they would if they could....

Not really. AMD did a surprisingly good job of closing the raw performance gap but, as I said Nvidia's ability to push game developers to use their technologies is a key factor to their success

Without their tech enabled you can see how close the performance is: https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ih6PShqNrJQCwagkPJW3zi.png
