Help... I think Nvidia owe me some money for years of therapy...

I can't stop myself from trying to buying "Cheap" 3060Ti / 3070, even though I don't scalp. I still follow stocking discord although I no longer need graphics card. When I say cheap, I mean £100 above RRP.

I also cannot stop myself from mining crypto, even as I type this post, my graphics card is whirring away performing useless calculations, my gaming session now has a associated monetary cost, which cast a shadow in the back of my head, ruining the immersion.

They say first step to recovery is admitting the problem.

Here is my story.

Thinking back to middle of last year, I was like many of you, happy, well adjusted, I had a Geforce 2080 which I was very happy with and gamed occasionally, I just gotten the Samsung G9, which was finally taxing the graphics card under some of the newer games.

Then everything changed.

Nvidia released their 3080, which on paper looked absolutely amazing, of course I heard about the shortages and scalpers selling cards £100 RRP, but I was happy continuing to use my Geforce 2080, "Give it 3-4 months" I thought, things will get better then I'll pick up a 3080 at RRP.

Fast forward to end of 2021, things has only gotten worse and something finally pushed me over the edge, some say perhaps it was the insane high price of second hand graphics card (When can I ever get over £550 for my Geforce 2080 I thought). I had finally started to follow stocking discord and twitter, and bagged myself a Geforce 3070 MSI for £520.

When Founders Edition drop, I could not stop myself from buying 2 3090FE, even though I hardly need it, the value proposition was too great for my primitive monkey brain.

Since then I purchased 2 more 3070 at around £550 and sold them on at cost to various people I know, not because I need them, but because can no longer resist the opportunity of a seemly good deal.

I have also started crypto mining to take the edge off the amount of money I've spent on the 2 3090FEs, my machine now runs 24/7 mining on NiceHash, and I have become addicted to waking up in the morning and counting the £25 or so worth of crypto I have earned from the previous day. I now game much more rarely, because I cannot get the £1 / hour I am losing by not mining out the back of my head and it is totally ruining my immersion.

lol @Spiritwolf it could be worse, you could be one of the many forum members that smashed £2100 on a Titan and is sitting here quietly because they have been broke since they bought one, watching their card get whacked by a 3070.

ahh i long for the good old days of the forum in 2011 when we all bought four GPUs for quadfire/quadsli that didn’t work properly but they were cheap, in stock and then accidentally worked out we could mine with them. Mined a thousand litecoins coins then sold them for $1 each.

Now members post about PTSD symptoms from using Discord stock checkers.

And I am getting different kind of anxiety to you as I can’t get the damn thing. So I am constantly checking to see if my discord is working. I am even hearing phantom notifications these days.

Just imagine this same addiction but with scalped 6900 XTs. :D

I mean by the same logic any time you are gaming you are giving up money, because you yourself could also be doing something productive...

Time gaming is time you aren’t out there shining shoes and mowing lawns.

Get cracking.

I think the whole point is there is no logic, that’s why it is a problem:D

I'm not even sure what kind of thread this is. Is it a troll thread mocking gamers? Is it encouraging people to mine crypto? Is it a post about the insanity of modern life?

Answers on a postcard.

We all want friends like you man.

Personally, if I get the 3070 I'm after at a decent price, I don't think I'll be looking again for years, this whole situation is just ridiculous.
