How likely am I to get a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 at MSRP?

Hi there

Look at the OcUK webshop, nothing is available, if we put anything online, say even a 3070 at £800 they sell at a rate of literally 100 units per minute, we could list them at £1200 and people would still be buying them.

The situation right now in the world regarding GPU's and some other items is a total mess, GPU's have become this rare like material that people will pay well over the odds for.

Those who can grab FE cards at MSRP, good on you, because that is the best way, then you can sell your old GPU at such a high price you can more or less cover your new at MSRP GPU purchase.

The situation going forward seems to be worsening, I really hope it is just an after effect of CNY, but the more sinister side of me is saying we will not be seeing any volume of new GPU's now for rest of the year, because the stock is either going direct to miners, AIB's are mining themselves or end users mining themselves are just to quick at buying stock up. In short there is so little stock incoming we basically have nothing to sell at present.

There is only one answer to the current situation imho, and it is also my recommendation.

It's not just GPUs though... nearly everything is short supply and overpriced.
If there was ever a time to make your PC last another 12 months I think NOW would be that time.

If you want to pay MSRP, you just need to wait it out. I've temporarily given up gaming until this blows over.

Unless you have no gpu you don't really have to give up gaming. Just play the games that your existing gpu can handle. I play League of Legends so any old gpu can play it just fine. More fun than many AAA games too.

there has been reports that retailers receive gpu stock but dont sell it and insted setup mining rigs. once they done with the mining they sell on the gpus as B grade items etc. 2 retailers were exposed for this on reddit not long back.
cant believe how much value bitcoin has shot up. useless calculations too but now some say that compute power is being used to decrypt hash keys etc for hackers.

I don't understand why the 3060 should launch at an extreme price.

As of right now, they shouldn't have sold any and should only have stock.
Unless the disti price has gone through the roof?

Funny just came across this on description of a 3060 on a site: ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3060 TWIN EDGE 12GB GDDR6 Ray-Tracing Graphics Card, 3584 Core, 1320MHz, 1777MHz - £299inc
I highly doubt they would be selling for that low, maybe just a typo or a place holder.
And even if it does go up for that much, don't think any of your normal buyer would get a look in.

I decided to bite the bullet and buy a low end GTX card so I at least have something for my new build (it will be bottleneck central), before every GPU on this planet becomes extinct, I will be keeping a close eye on the RTX 3060 launch and try and get a card at MSRP, I definitely won't be paying £150+ over the odds for a card I won't be mining on.

I have seen the 3060 etailer description mentioned above listing price as £299 but it isn't looking hopeful. I doubt that the UK even has much stock compared to some other countries

Crazy that simply buying a graphics cards these days feels like stepping up to take a world cup penalty against Oliver Khan - I know I'll probably miss and I'm nervous as hell. Will try my utmost to nab a 3060 in a few days time but seems that my efforts will be in vain.

in the stupid situation of:

1. not even wanting to buy a nvidia card (because I run a rolling distro)
2. having a Vega64 in RMA with asus (which may result in a replacement)

and yet still having to try buying a 3060 on thursday, because i have no idea if i'll be successful on a 6700XT next month. lol.

Seems we both you and me are on the same boat here... I am somehow amused to see my GPU working at 100% while the CPU is twiddling its fingers really... might keep an eye on the 3060, but even at 300£ is not really what I was after, and I really doubt it will be priced anywhere close to that...

Wake me up when all this is over, and I can decide what and where to buy rather than rush into buying the only available card, from the only manufacturer to choose from, and from the only retailer which has it in stock, and just paying any price which is being asked for it... this is a complete nonsense.

I've been out of the PC gaming world for almost a decade, so have quite a library to catch up on with the 1050ti I just ordered. Hopefully by the time i've enjoyed this huge backlog of games the GPU market will be back to normal or less crazy and I can buy one of those more high end GPU's. I think I will even be able to play Warhammer 2 at high settings at 35 FPS, which I am pleasantly surprised about.

I'm completely with you on what you said, I am extremely uncomfortable with just paying any amount of money, to any retailer, for a £300+ card and competing with bots and essentially getting taken advantage of in the process, those are very far from my regular habits as a consumer (I am obsessed with finding a bargain and shopping around).

What resolution are you playing at? I'm on a 1080Ti and it easily hits 60fps at highest settings @ 1440p In WH2

Same here, I had been thinking into getting a new PC for many years, and it seems I chose the worst possible moment to finally do it... If you enjoyed strategy games years ago, you'll love Warhammer (I guess you are talking about the total war videogame). It has been one of the games that has surprised me the most... and I can guarantee you'll have no problems running it with a 1080, because that's one of the games I play, with a very inferior card... I wish I had gone for a 1080 instead of the 770 I got for myself, but of course I didn't think this situation was going to last this long.

I have no problems spending a fair amount of money into a GPU, but I am not gonna pay any price asked for something I don't think is worth it, much less if I only play one or two hours after work. Once all this is over, we'll see what I decide to do, but I like to buy what I want, wherever I want, and of course I am not willing to spend dozens of hours checking for changes in stock...
