Is there a guide to DIY deepfake. A friend fancies doing a project together but all I know is that it's really hard and you might need a powerful computer to do so.

Could genuinely turn video evidence into garbage.

Yeah I've been worried about the potential for this undermining video evidence, someone could either frame you, or defence lawyers use it as a way to discredit genuine videos.
Massive propaganda potential too, just create videos of famous / trusted people pedalling whatever message you want to get across. I wonder if there will be some sort of 'authentication' process in future for video where an individual (or their administrative office) has to formally approve use of video for public broadcast.

Cheers, didn't realise or forgot Linus had done one. I ended up finding some Google Collaboration code and guide (the first version I tried was useless as it just skipped over steps). Used the app that did the rounds a couple of months ago. My first attempt is to try my friend on a Trump video (first I came across in the guide).

Someone once deep faked my face on to a recording of someone saying "I do" and I've been stuck ever since

Hhhmm first attempt, as predicted, is awful (almost certainly my fault). Rather than put my friend's face on Leo's (award ceremony), it has animated my friend's face instead with Leo's animations. Interesting to play around with though.

People will be so self obsessed by then that they won't care about movie stars, but there could instead be a market for personalised deep fake movies starring themselves.

Been playing with the Google Collab version. Hit-and-miss especially using my own video/pictures, any annoyingly the best result I got was me as a child and Trump .
