Pontins black lists people with common Irish surnames.

Pontins is pretty much the bottom of that kind of holiday, go look at trip adviser on Camber Sands for some good reading.

Thing is with this kind of thing is its born from experience, they have obviously had a very bad time with a group or three and look to mitigate it happening again. Probably kicked off and they got no support from the police because that's what happens.

Racist bigotry - please cancel yourself from life immediately.
"“You may not see why this matters. If you're not adversely affected by racial stereotyping yourself, then please count yourself lucky. For some of your colleagues (and potential future colleagues), this really is a change worth making.”"

It is a shame half the forum can't ever get their head around these matters.

But I will ask the question,

Is Irish now a race/ethnicity?

I think so yes. I was suspended on here a few years ago for posting an Irish joke. When I queried it in the Forum Content Discussion section, I was told it was because an Irish joke is classed as an ethnic joke and is therefore racist. I was none the wiser and when I looked it up, I found out that other countries had their own versions of the same joke but aimed at a different country etc.

Its interesting I guess as the company didn't target an entire ethnicity but just a handful of them.

What nobody seems to be asking is why pontins felt the need to do this, I.e what damage had been done previously and what law enforcement had done to resolve it.

Was it just a prejudice action without consideration or did things get so bad that pontins were struggling to operate and protect the safety of their own employees/other customers.

There will probably be a few Pontine ablaze and help prove their point now this is in the open :D

I agree, this sort of thing does make sense as it's replaced with something even more explicit in it's meaning. It's easy to get on board with when it makes sense and there's no sentimental clinginess to a term for "reasons".

I disagree.
Rather than change dozens of terms and phrases with etymology that has nothing to do with skin colours (black list, in the black, black sheep of the family, black as night, etc), perhaps we should instead change just the two words representing the primary opposing sides in this race war?

After all, the 'White' people are basically pinky-beige and the 'Black' people are varying shades of brown.... y'know, if you wanted to get all correct about correct use of correct words and all that!! :D
