Zotac Rtx 3090 mining bug

Hi guys

I have the zotac rtx 3090 trinity. I basically play games and do mining in the evenings with that card. But the problem is that it just stucks at 290watt power draw and not exceeding it even if i set the power limit to max. Because of that the hash rate decreased.

What do you think can the problem be?

While gaming it draws power up to 360watt but when it comes to mining it just stucks at 290-300watt

Reduced power draw cause its overheating is my guess

I dont have any power issues as i put 2 fans back of the backplate and my vram temps are max at 90 degrees. As i said it was working fine up until today. It was achivng 120mh at 308watt but it capped at 294 watt maximum and because of that the has rate reduced 10mh and now mining at 110mh. No matter what i set power limit to it just cant go above 294watt

Was it fine? Sounds too high to me. Mining is memory bandwidth limited and has extremely low GPU core usage, so power consumption shouldn't be equal to that of gaming and performance is directly proportional to the memory clock. It very much sounds to me like your card is throttled. I don't bother mining myself, but in the few limited tests I did then 115-120 MH/s at 290-295 W is completely normal, until VRAM gets pulled back.

appereantly you do not read. Yes it was fine and now it is not with the same configs. I always monitor my card while gaming or mining and i know how it acts. It consumes whatever power limit i set and now it does not pass the 290watt limit even if i set it to %100 or %90 or etc. Basically there is no throttling and also hardware info confirms that and as i said vram temps are around 88-90 which are in the range.

Have you tried changing to a different mining program, sometimes there are updates that can effect hash rate etc.

It could be the VRMs not VRAM on the card overheating. Since when gaming the power load is balanced but when mining the card pulls a lot of power through the memory phases which might have melted the pads and are now causing power throttling.

re install the driver and try again, if the card still is capped at 294w something has gone wrong at a harware level, a good test is to try any game and manually set the power sliders to the max and see what the card pulls, again if it's at 294w and getting hot, the card is a fault, either the thermal pads have dried up to the point the ram is running that hot or you ned to increase airflow around the card substantually to overcome the heating issue.

or as above switch over mining programs, plus nvidia may be secretly limiting all 3000 cards to stop ppl getting such good hash rates, just seems funny its dropped all of a sudden

just getting answers without my explanations read. I think this is the attitude if you are looking for one.

It is common courtesy to be polite to people giving their time to try and help you, even if you aren't enamoured with their efforts.

I would plan on wiping the current driver install and installing fresh drivers. Check for the latest BIOS for your card too. It would be unusual to be a hardware issue.

My FE getto modded for a bit of mining.

96C memory junction temp. It came out quite nice. Looks like 3090ti warranty still intact.
