Nvidia Re-Size Bar/SAM support is live for some cards, more in March - 10% performance gains

The gptgen (method 3 in the beebom link) looks the most promising in my opinion.

I just went with the windows built in mbr2gpt.exe tool, very quick and easy. I can now turn of CSM and boot into windows in UEFI BIOS mode, and now I have "yes" next to the resizable bar in nvidia system info so all good.

Cheers for the link!

How do I know which vbios to use? There’s 6 of them on Gigabytes download page.

For example, it was F61 for me.

I had two different picks, F2 or F62.

So I figured I should've installed F62... :D

You can maybe apply the same logic?

Asus Z490E, 10700K and 3090FE. Worked fine, needed a reboot before the NV control panel showed it activated. Tried Control and Cyberpunk at 4K. Haven't benchmarked as had no old benchmarks to compare. Didn't notice any big gains in framerate. Lows felt better though, games seemed smoother.

You've got to disable CSM not enable it. It's good that your disk is using GPT.

If CSM is already disabled then that is not the issue.

I can see a toggle that says CSM / UEFI. It's using UEFI.

Edit:
Turns out there's an option in MSI BIOS to enable Resizable Bar. This is on my MSI B550 Mag Mortar. All working now.

Resizable bar in Godfall destroyed the performance :D Avg fps dropped from 69.7 to 36.0 . I would like to see someone with 5000 series CPU do the same test. But I have a feeling that it has something to do with VRAM usage. Game is very heavy on VRAM, maybe resizable bar stresses VRAM even more_?

Good to hear, the articles I read said that that tool would wipe your data but I saw someone on Reddit tried it and things must have changed because it doesn't do that anymore. Glad you got it sorted.

Ouch!

Shouldn't be causing any drop....

not quite true its been reported by Nvidia and AMD that performance differs some games gain, some games stay same, some games are worse.

This is Nvidia's reason for enabling it on certain tested games that definitely see a gain. Whether you agree on that is personal opinion.

From what I have seen with SAM most games show a performance increase, and only a few show a regression. I would expect this to improve as the technology matures.

Yup I know that but wasn't godfall one game where amd see a big gain with SAM? So surely nvidia should too????

Yeah, but it seems they specifically added games they tested (godfall is on the list).

So let's not run into conclusions, because it might be because of my zen+ cpu, it's not officially supported.

Someone needs to test it with a 5000 series CPU+ rtx 3070 and see if they reproduce the issue. If they can, the we can assume it's a problem specific to GPU. If the problem does not persist, than the blame is on my older CPU. :)

I simply used game's benchmark mode, it can be accesible from settings, even without playing the game.

Ok I'm a noob...
I have a 10700k, Gigabyte z490 mb and a gigabyte 3080
I installed the latest drivers and now how can I tell if Resizable bar is on?
and yes I read the last several pages but...I need some guidance, I'm hoping no bios work is needed cos that seems techy for me :P

Enabling Re-Size bar in my BIOS also enables 4G automatically. CSM goes from the default of Enabled to Disabled.
This turns all of my drives to non bootable.
If I then set CSM Enabled again my system wont boot so have to do a CMOS clear, set back to defaults etc.

Having to do a Windows re-install for UEFI mode that can't be right can it? Will Re-Size bar ever work with CSM mode enabled?
