Anyone know if any waxes, and or sealants can stop etching from bird poo?
I proactively wash off poop, but Sunday after cleaning the car in the morning, I came home later in the evening to see poop on the bonnet that had etched into the paint given it was in the full on sun.
I had applied some sealant (Poorboy's) a few weeks back/Mer ultimate wax.
Wondering if a cover is the way to go?

Breathable cover is the best way no wax or sealant will last for long the acidity will burn through it fast. Had this issue for several weeks now I just bought a decent cover in the end (but still need to wipe that once a day to remove the droppings!). In spring birds flock to trees to peck on seeds & nuts (pigeons are worse for this!). Also car colour makes a difference as well!

Firstly, don't try and polish out the etchings. This is going to sound odd but go with it... Get a hair dryer on the hottest setting and wave it over the effected area. Stick with it because you need to get the surface really hot.

You'll be stood there thinking I'm mental but all of a sudden you should notice the clearcoat kind of flash over slightly as it softens and the etchings will disappear.

My company car came from a seaside dealership and was covered in etchings. The only one I haven't ever been able to remove fully using that method was the one I tried to polish out first.

As for protection I find a layer of carnauba wax is best. The poo sticking to the clearcoat then shrinking in the sun is what causes the etchings. Stop it sticking, minimise the damage.

I’ve worked out there must be a curry house for albatrosses wherever I go. I had one hit the bonnet up the windscreen, roof and even to the rear spoiler. It must have been a albatross, must have!

I've been hassling a pair of jackdaws with a BB gun to try and stop them nesting nearby, I swear they now have a poop vendetta against me and my car :(

Please don’t use a BB gun to shoot at animals, they are nowhere near powerful or accurate enough to humanely dispatch an animal, at best you miss and the BB lands somewhere it won’t cause damage to anyone, at worst you cause them pain and they suffer or it hits something else that doesn’t take kindly to it.

Shooting at Jackdaws with anything is a criminal offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as they’re not listed as vermin under Schedule 2 Part 1. So stop doing it now please. Believe me, you really don’t want to be on the wrong side of either the RSPCA or the RSPB.

Oh i havent tried that one yet, we have issues with birds around here they ruined the paint work on wifes as she didnt wash it off whilst i was working away for a period of time. I managed to polish it to an aceptable level, but i can still see it. Will try this the next time i have an issue with bird poo.

Ok guys point taken. I wasn't shooting them to kill, just to hassle them as I pointed out. This thing isn't an ak, it's a plastic pistol with a bright blue topslide which shoots plastic balls. I started with a spud gun but it didn't have the range.

I shot the Mrs in the bum from 5 feet and she said it stung :)

Bane of my life.

Neighbour puts some industrial grade bird feed in their feeder.
No matter what coating I put on the car, it was impossible to clean off. The car ended up with a load of tiny scratches from cleaning it.

ouch !
if your scratching it from cleaning your car, there's a problem with your method
i would pre wash, wash, decontaminate and correction if possible, apply polish and then a good sealant (like what i linked above)

just make sure you never use a brush on the bodywork or one of those wiper blade things

You think that's bad, I have a listed Tree growing over my space. I get tree pollen and bird poop mixed into one sticky coating. I have to wash it 3 times a week in spring to keep it looking reasonable. I really need to go and get a cover too.

Cover is your best bet. Just make sure it doesn't rub dust against the paintwork.
Even better, some ceramic coating also works. Some are a pain to apply, but they last very long.
Personally I like sealants.
But as said, won't protect for too long.
White cars less affected. Dark colours, more likely to suffer permanent damage.
