Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

my whole april has been rough. up and down and down and now some down... :(
im starting to get the urge to back away from all this again with what little profit ive made.

Well it all depends on what you want out of the stock market. For me its long term investing in companies I think have a large future and sticking with them through short term highs and lows. A few months ago I also put in £200 to day trade for fun and whilst it was slow going I have managed to get it to £420 and its taught me many lessons.

Amazon completely obliterated it. Earnings: $15.79 per share vs. $9.54 per share expected. Revenue: $108.52 billion vs. $104.47 billion expected.

Twitter was in line with guidance and added 7m paying users and total user base up 20%. Stock is down 10% apparently it wasn't enough to please people. Earnings: 16 cents per share, adjusted, vs. 14 cents forecast by Refinitiv. Revenue: $1.04 billion vs. $1.03 billion forecast by Refinitiv

I bought some stocks on the dip, problem is they have dipped even further :)

Bought 10k Tesla at 620 last month which has been great even though they’ve dropped quite a lot last two days but bought for a long term hold anyway.

bought some first group shares yesterday on the dip at 80p but have dropped even further today. When I bought at 80p that was the lowest it had been in 6months so thought it was a good buy.

initially bought last year during lockdown and got in at 36p, before vaccine announcement. Doubled that investment, just wish I had more spare cash back then as was a great time to buy stocks.

I've been in First Group since 47p - Dropped back from just short of 100p but a 30p special dividend per share heading my way after the US sales...

Nice, my avg on FGP is 80p, I expect them to recover enough to make it worth it..

how does the dividend work? My dads got loads in first group he’s had them long term.

he bought my in at think it was 32p, but had loads more from working there.

30p a share return of capital -

FirstGroup Plc has announced a return of capital. This means that your account will be credited with a cash payment, which will be treated as capital for tax purposes.

Under the terms of the return of capital, your account will be credited with GBP0.30 for each share held as of the ex-entitlement date. The proposed return of value is expected to happen during the 2021 calendar year.

Would anyone be able to clear this up:

One of the bosses at work came in beaming this morning claiming circa 1999 he'd bought 6,666 shares@19p in Sportech, forgotten about them until last night when he was looking for something else and just stumbled upon them. He now claims they're worth £250,000+.

Can someone please tell me it isn't true?

Looks like they did dip a lot then but seeing lows about 5 or 6 quid a share. Can't see how he would have forgotten about them if they rose to 100-200 over next couple years

Where you seeing that?

This suggests they made it up to around £3 around 2002 but then now they're at 29p

So he's made around 50% in 22years.

I thought everyone was buying the dips.

the problem is most people aren't rich enough to be able to double down on a dip, you kinda need to be a millionaire to become a multi millionaire.

but then you'd probably just have more money invested in the first place and the same issue but with more digits

Need money to make money :)

PS. I had no money to buy dips :D

I'd have assumed the price would've rocketed up by ~30p on this news but looking at the last month it's been pretty stagnent. I assume the snapshot has already been taken?

I was up over 100% since September last year - touched 100p just about I think. I'm still up over 80% on it and with a 30p divi coming it's been a very nice earner for me.

Apart from my Facebook purchase pre earnings I still don't see any stand outs. Tempted by UK bank. But think I've missed the boat. I guess it won't hurt to build up cash at this point.

Yeah, i'm more thinking of right now. At 75p if you are still entitled to the 30p dividend then surely that makes it a bargain. Especially since they've now heavily reduced their debt. Unless the dividend allocation has already been done and it's just a case of it being paid later in the year.
