Used car advice £3.5k

What are peoples opinions on this? I know it is diesel but the milage seems good and it says it comes with a full-service history.

Not a learner drivers car. Also, I would buy a lower spec car as there is less expensive stuff to go wrong. I would buy something newer and lower spec for reliability.

I may be as little as 100 miles a week, I work from home mainly but now we can get out and about properly I need something to get me around.

Not enough to warrant getting a diesel, stick with petrol, they are a bit more expensive to buy but less problems for shorter drives

Honda’s first Diesel engine. They can have oil pump issues, worth checking the service history for on time changes and correct oil. Not particularly economical for a diesel.

Petrol Civic might be a better bet.

Handing it over to my daughter is not a requirement, just a bonus, I just need something reliable for 12 - 18 months max budget, £3500.

A shortlist to consider, I would buy a petrol:

Mazda 3
Mazda 6
Honda Accord
Vauxhall Astra
Toyota Auris
VW Golf
Ford Focus

Do you prefer small hatchbacks (Fiesta) or mid-size hatchbacks (Focus)?

With the Mazda's, being Japanese, they are probably more reliable than the Fords, but they might have larger repair costs if something goes wrong, I'm not sure TBH. The Mazda 3 is based on the Focus. The 6 is quite a long car.

Skoda Octavia is probably also worth a look, for reliability and cheap running costs.

No offence but i would say avoid the saloon type of cars and the Octavias
because if your daughter is having it for lessens, that be too big really and harder to learn in

stick with a mazda 3 / Focus / Civic and you cant go far wrong

Smaller and light weight alloys. You will notice the difference.

The ride will be better, better steering, better acceleration.

Firstly, most Octavias are hatchbacks, secondly they are Golf platform cars, making them Civic and Focus sized.
