So I was looking back over my orders from a rival company and turns out I paid exactly £348 for my 1070 back in 2017.

It's still running brilliantly now, I know we all know msrp of older cards etc but for those who are willing to share what did you actually pay?

To me it shows how bonkers these prices are as I have to pay least double the £348 to see a decent upgrade.
 
£200 for a 5870 back in the day
£400 for a 680

I paid exactly £425 for my 2070 super in early to mid 2020 which i thought at the time was pretty expensive, then sold that for exactly the same amount and got a 2080 cos i wanted a card that i could waterblock and that came with a waterblock as standard for £500.

I never thought i'd pay £1500 for a 3090 though which i ended up doing after failing to get a 3080... which is even more bonkers.

i paid 230 dollars for a second hand 1080 in late 2018

sold it for 500 dolllars early this year. then started hunting for amazon stocks

managed to catch a 3070 for 720 dollars

in the end a net of 450 dollars it not that bad. but still bad compared to your 330 dollar 1070. at 1080p i expect it to last 5-6 years lmao :D so a nice investment on my end. wish nvidia didn't use a software scheduling hack
 
You can get a 3080 for £650 if you are fast enough.

Ocuk sold 3060 for £450 which is mental but still a good deal. I'm sure I paid £180 for a 1060 not so long ago new. People are paying £600 for them regularly. So retail has more than tripled on them.

I don't really see the point of this thread. People will have gotten great cards cheaply either new or second hand and others will have overpaid because they just wanted a card straight away.

The best card I've had is likely 2070 super which I recently sold for what I paid for it I could have sold it for a £200 profit on eBay but sold for cost on mm. It was around £470 iirc with a voucher I sold for £30. So real cost was £440 and I sold for £470 so I actually got paid £30 to buy and use that card for 21 months thanks to me selling the voucher on. It could have been £230 of I sold on eBay but passed it on to a fellow ocuk'r.

It had the best cooling I've ever seen it ran at 55c whilst gaming and never seen it go above 70c when being benched.

If you can get a 3080 for £650 that's the best option right now hands down.

I bought a 1650 super for my server for a great price. It's now worth more than double what I paid for it but there is no way I would sell anything worth more than £100 on eBay now especially with their recent payment after delivery and positive feedback changes.

I know someone who paid like £900 I'm sure for an Asus Rog strix 1080ti.
 
used 980 ti for 200 a couple of years back.

same card used now about 280

first time in my life a PC part went up in value lol.
 
980ti Zotac Amp! Omega from OcUK for the absolute bargain price of £319, then a 5700xt for £380 after selling the 980ti for £150. Most recent purchase was a 6800 for £600, sold the 5700xt for £325

If I'd kept the 980ti and 5700xt a few more months, they could have paid for the 6800 almost twice over :(

I do remember about 6 months after I got the 980ti they were selling for ~£400 used!
 
2021: £1400 for RTX 3090.
2019: £1050 for RTX 2080 Ti.
2015: £880 for GTX Titan X.
2013: £700 for GTX 780 Ti (probably less, actually).

To see what the average was and to see if prices were actually as cheap as we thought, you also replied so you saw some reason for the thread or why bother replying :p

If you top and tail those numbers you can see that over the years I have typically paid around £190 on average. You'll also notice that my current card cost more than double anything I've bought before.
Writing that list it is pretty impressive that the 7950 lasted me over 4 years, although I ramped down gaming quite a bit then due to having a baby.
GTX280 was a bit of a bargain considering it was the flagship card and only released 2 months prior.
The RX480 I bought from a slightly dodgy looking etailer, because it was priced way less than everywhere else and the mining boom was starting to kick off in early 2017 so I wanted to get in and grab a card before prices shot up, given I'd had the 7950 so long. I sold it over 4 years later for more than double what I paid heh.
 
I paid £165 for a 1GB HD 4870 in March 2009, which was a very competitive mid-range card. The best single-GPU card on the market, the GTX 285, was only around 35% faster. That tier of performance is around £500 now with the RTX 3070 and RX 6800. And that's at RRP.

I'd never spent more than about £150 on a card before. Even a 3060 realistically in a normal market shouldn't have cost me more than £250 (the £450 forum deal one was a top end AIB model which are always crap value, in normal times I would've just got a cheaper one or waited for a special offer, or bought used etc).
