Tracker install with subscription

My current insurance company are insisting I get a tracker fitted with an active subscription to a car I’m looking at buying. I’ll have two weeks from the date of purchase to get it installed and supply them with evidence.

I know nothing about them, the brands, prices or subscription costs. Any recommendations so I can look at prices and work out if it’s worth staying with them or looking to change provider.

Depends if you just want to satisfy the bare minimum of insurance requirements and use something like Vodafone or have something you actually want to be able to track and recover properly etc. if needed and use someone like Automatrics.

I don’t like trackers as I take the view if the car is nicked then I don’t really want it back. Personal thing, some like the idea of being able to find the car and the crims but I think if they are serious crims the tracker won’t help. My insurer didn’t insist on one.

Just get one with a "lifetime" subscription from smartrak if you plan to keep the car for more than a few years. But as above, unless the premium decrease is worth the cost of getting one installed, just go with a different insurance company.

Seen a couple of videos of the mtrack one where they trashed the car trying to find the tracker before abandoning it - not sure why past a certain point they even still bothered.

Get a new insurance company

I'm just weighing up my options of getting one fitted and staying with the current company versus moving mid term.

No one. Just funny you only just realised a tracker is £500 and didn’t even bother Googling. I’m sure that post took longer to type than ‘cost of tracker’

Worst ‘I’m gonna buy a M3 ‘ thread ever ;)

It’s not as simple as just a case of £500 or whatever for an install, it’s the ongoing premiums over the years and if they’re cheaper overall versus none tracker then I might look at that.

Nowhere in my first post did I mention what car I’m getting, I was purely interested in the range of options and costs for trackers and feedback. Someone asked me what car so I replied.

Go back to curtain twitching or whatever other annoying habits you have.

Ironic you are now telling me how much they cost, 30 mins ago you didn’t know how much they cost.

I have one! Fully aware of its costs and that’s why never bothered subscribing. Use a company who doesn’t ask for it, this was my advice was early on. I doubt there is premium increase if you find an insured who doesn’t need. Try A-plan

the fact it’s £500 and then you need to pay yearly subscription is obvious no? It’s always been the issue with them since the last 20yrs The ongoing cost is silly and who really wants the car back anyway. It’s still stolen recovered so they are all round a pretty crap thing to have on your car.

I’ll go back to curtain twitch - bizarre thing to say on a public forum if curtain twitching is replying to threads - and you can go back to getting a forum to do your research for you.

I wonder what a forum would be like if no one read threads for fear of being accussed of being a curtain twitcher

My last insurance company asked if I had a tracker fitted to my E43 when I had it, so I said no and they said it was required under the policy. I told them Mercedes have an app which tells me where the car is and that was good enough for them as they dont specify what sort of tracker is required. I cant recall if the BMW app can locate your car or not?

Churchill didnt even ask for the E63S

I said £500 or whatever, there are different options with different costs so I don't know.

You've managed to post some semi useful information, which was the entire reason I created this thread - for information about trackers.

Not for any other reason which you seem to think.

I wonder what a forum would be like if no one ever asks questions about things they don't fully know about or understand.

The app can but only when the car is stationary IIRC. I'm with BMW Insurance and they told me it has to be a Thatcham approved tracker.
