Even at the lower end the '£299' RX 6600 (non-xt) is being sold for 50% above the RRP, which is a similar price to what the 6600xt was a couple of months back. Crazy really, shows just how borked the market is atm.
Guessing the high prices on mid range AMD cards are due to displaced demand from people priced out of the higher end cards or Nvidia cards, as they aren't very good miners in their own right. (edit: having checked on the nicehash estimates they are more effective miners than I thought, so maybe they are being bought by miners as well as gamers...)
Would be great if Intel shows up with boat loads full of gpus to satiate demand, but realistically does seem like people forecasting problems well into 2022 were right, as supply seems unlikely to be as huge as would be needed, and with crypto high there will be a price floor below which all high performance gpus will get hoovered up by big mining operators. Seems like there's some potential for prices to drop back at the lower end though, as lower end cards should
