Been swiping for years, used an old version of Swype which I think was bought up by Swiftkey on my old phone but since moving to my Pixel which had GBoard swipe turned on by default I've moved to that as it's much better than it used to be.
I'd type just to **** off your kind... and I'd do it on a phone so old it still has a slide-out full-size landscape QWERTY board, but still only use one finger!
TBH, I tried Swype and a couple others before, but they're just too much hassle.
I remain fully manual and I disable autotype and all other 'assistance features', because they never get it right and I don't have time to mess around teaching it all the things I can just type as I go.
Just gave swiping a go and it seems to work alright, so I'll trial it for a couple of days. I seem to remember trying it a number of years ago and it was complete poop, but the algorithms have no doubt improved since then.
I've swipe, have done for years. As others have said I find gboard's version very good but I've not tried any others for more than about 5 mins.
For me it's usually very accurate, and that's with my atrocious spelling. I find I just have a guess at which letters I need and it usually corrects it for me. Perfect for one handed use and the speed comes from not having to actually hit all the letters, just generally head towards them in mostly the right order (extremely helpful when you've had a few pints). The not having to hit everything might have come from learning my style over time though, not sure how much machine learning they've put into it tbh.
Every now and then I have to write something on my wife's phone where she hasn't got it enabled and it's so bad it makes me want to throw up. That's in part because she uses the default Samsung keyboard as well though which is truly dreadful
It's General Discussion, babes. We could filter a thousand threads from here to a more specific forum but then GD would be 100% identity politics and threads about American cops playing real life FPS.
Type. I gave swiping a good go but it was never as quick. Unfortunately I showed my girlfriend it and she insists on swiping with one finger, whist holding the phone in her other hand (like a pensioner). The end result is it takes her a good 5mins to write any sort of message She could just hold the phone in both hands and type properly ffs!
They say it's faster to swipe but I tap. Always been a tapper. You can't swipe on a desktop or laptop so it feels strange to keep alternating between swipe and tap.

I'm actually quite surprised at the poll results. Especially on a tech forum. Might be interesting to see the split of ios/android users for those who prefer typing over swiping. I know when I had an iphone, swiping was horrendous and I admit to using typing far more often.
