Teen gamers - upgrading PC - is it worth it?

ok great thank you. so do you think they will see a noticeable difference in FPS if we upgrade to from the NVidia 1660 to the 3600?

i actually ordered seagate barracuda 2tb hdd the other day, is that the wrong thing? should it have been 1tb nvme? (did i mention i have no clue)

You will be upgrading from a 3350g to a 3600 which should give you a increase between 10% to 20% in fps.

2tb hard drive isn't what you need, is your 240gb ssd an m2 drive or a standard ssd ?

You are double checking if that socket is empty. I would be very surprised if it was in use by the 240gb stated drive.

Ok ive just checked and that socket is empty.

I will download speccy shortly (teens using pcs for homework)

With the nvme, do we need to move the operating system from the SSD to this new one?
Or is it just plug and play?
Thank you all again for your help and guidance

Keep windows as is as long as its on the 240gb ssd just plug in new nvme drive you may have to initialize the drive in windows disk management which will assign a letter to the m2

Yes windows is on the 240gb

It's definitely the V2 motherboard not rev2

Make sure the pc is turned off and disconnected from the wall before installing the m2 drive there should be a screw to hold down the other side.

Guide but there are loads just Google.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/initialize-new-disks

Is windows on the 240gb ssd which would be the c drive ?

@mickyflinn Should still be fine going for the 3600 as both the 3350G and 3600 require F40 bios which the board would likely already have to support the 3350G.

Good spot on the board being different though.

Tx for clarification.

@amy kemp alls good you don't need a bios update so yes you want a ryzen 3600 and a 1tb m2. When changing the cpu run your computer for 5 mins then turn off this will loosen the cooler and be careful with the cpu its easy to bend the pins. It only fits in one way

When upgrading do one thing first and makes sure it works correctly then do the next upgrade.

Sorry about all the confusion but don't want to give you bad info.

Thank you

And

if you have free shipping, i would suggest that you buy the ssd first and install that. it may well just be the case that your kids are complaining about the computer's performance solely due to the lack of ssd space.
whilst there is a theoretical 20% performance difference between the ryzen 3600 and 3350G (core-for-core and not taking into account 2 more cores in the 3600), the overall performance gain is unlikely to actually be a 20% increase in frame rates unless the cpu is fully loaded.
