Purchasing a 2nd hand car long distance

Find something nearer. Those pictures are hardly flatting, obvious paint swirls, dents, flaking paint? Poor condition trim, interior obviously worn. That cars had a hard life for 85k miles.

I know its a 10 year old daily driver, but you can get better for the money and probably more local to actually test drive and have some easy recourse if something goes wrong.

I would need to have a closer look at the pics when Im at my PC. The seller has said they will send me a video of the car tomorrow. The fact its a fair distance away does concern me if something goes wrong.

I've been looking for a couple of months and 99% of the decent looking cars are all down south

I would not be buying a 10-year-old daily from that kind of distance unless it was absolutely mint and I was collecting it in person. Suppose it's got some mechanical issues?

you have a good eye for photos done by someone else !

swirls, id have thought would be from a car park car wash that most people use, so you'll get them, but easily rectified

interior defiantly looks worn, my 81K Focus looks much better than that inside, to me that's done more than 100K by looking at the inside

Pictures are not very good quality - doesn't look like an slr , so the interior state is difficult to determine - can't see bolsters or headrests clearly.
tyres so-so.

But yes, I do think Mazda 6 make a good buy - no silly turbo to go wrong, slight downside on power made up for by (as good as 3 series) handling.

At 200 miles though any warrant issues will be a gamble, if you have to return to them.

The mileage checks out with the check I have done. Granted Im not sure exactly how reliable that is

Previous owner either had dogs in the car, was a smoker or a smelly *******, why else have so many air fresheners fitted to the vents?

That or there is mould or similar causing a musty smell from the AC which may or may not be easily fixable.

Other than that at face value looks more or less what you'd expect for a £4K 2011 car with 85K miles. The paint is probably rectifiable if you care about it.

You'd definitely want a look underneath at any corrosion though.

Why even ask when you're going to buy it anyway

I never actually said I was going to buy it. Im curious on peoples opinions and if they spot anything that I haven't. The seller is going to send a video tomorrow and put the car up on ramps to get a view of underneath.

Why not go and inspect it yourself? I know it's only a 10 year old high mileage car, but it's worth a tank of fuel and a few hours of your time before parting with £4k.

That's a bit of a rough area of greater Manchester, I'm sure there was a guy on here in the last couple of years who'd bought a dud from another rough area in GM.

I had an Evo 7 delivered to my house from a dealer. 10 mins later it was being loaded back on. Then spent 6 months recovering my deposit through section 75.

My Impreza came from Scotland during lockdown bought from pictures. It's lovely :)

In hindsight, go look at it in person.
