I doubt you're a particle physicist working from home so I'll just say there is zero chance that a household could generate 100TB of legitimate traffic in a couple of days. If you're just buying a fast connection so you can buy servers and then buy hard drives to store movies on I do have to wonder what the point of it all is.

Whatever floats your boat. Building up a huge collection of media in the highest quality you can find at rates that you can't possibly consume isn't for me but everyone has to have a hobby.

Exactly. Conversely, plenty of homelabbers feel that way about spending thousands on consumer level hardware just to play video games, buying tons of Steam specials that you'll add to your list and never get around to playing. It's incomprehensible that someone over the age of 12 could be bothered with that, when they could be buying grunty servers and learning something actually useful about networks and ZFS... *runs*. :p As you said, everyone's different! The industry would be much bleaker if everyone wanted the same thing.
