Hi all my mate has had a pc that a built him about 3 months ago and all seemed to be fine until his wifi would disconnect under load (playing games like r6 and rocket league) but did not disconnect in Minecraft.

We have tried every thing from flushing dns to uninstall all Wi-Fi drivers and still nothing, the only thing we have not tried is wired connection but will this make a different as the pc’s Wi-Fi worked before hand idk what to do it is possible to run a Ethernet cable but is there any thing else i can do, or will running Ethernet even work.

Manny thanks Harry

Using a wired connection will tell you if the Wi-Fi is the problem.

Is the Wi-Fi signal strong enough generally ?

You could try a system restore before the problem exists to see if a windows update or driver problem.

Wi-Fi signal fully is lost because I can see in advance settings in Wi-Fi it tells me how long I’ve been connected to the Wi-Fi and after I disconnect it reset the timer.
This only happens in games that are heavy loading.

If you can run that Ethernet cable a wired connection is far more stable if your losing connection after that only in games it mite be a server issiue.

Also reboot your router or hub.

Ok but I have tried everything apart from Ethernet if that dose not work what can I do do I need to factory rest the pc but will that even fix it ?

Try the Ethernet so there no chance of loosing connection, after that is either server but I'm not sure maybe post in networking section of the forum.

Also disable any network security .

Let me know if if the cable works.

One thing you haven't mentioned is the model of the Wi-Fi card. Have you tried searching the manufacturer site to see if there are any newer drivers?

If ethernet solves the problem but isn't a practical long term solution, maybe mesh wifi would be? PC connected to the satellite by ethernet.

There's also powerline, but my own experience of that was pretty poor.

You don't have to permanently use an ethernet cable. If the wifi on the motherboard is at fault, you can buy a new wifi card, but before you do that, try an ethernet cable, since your PC already comes with an ethernet port. You just need to find a cable.

If you have a short ethernet cable (or if you can borrow one from family/friend), move the closer to the router and connect with the cable. Then play the game for a little longer than it normally takes for the wifi connection to drop. That can help rule out the wifi, if it the problem. You can also try playing the game with the PC closer to the router, but over wifi to see if the distance has anything to do with it.
