Bad news guys, I'm not long for this world... I have bought not 1, but 2 benches with a narrow front leg.

RIP.

Is the second bench purely for the flat back so it doesn't move when going for a big lift? I think most gyms I've been to usually have mostly adjustable. I don't lift enough for it to matter

The flat bench is competition spec so is well suited to bench press. Adjustable benches are compromised for flat bench press. Usually they are the wrong height, have a gap between the back and seat and aren’t as thick/stable/sexy.

How many times have your injured yourself lifting heavy?

Some liquid damp proof membrane (and a lot of self leveller in the back). Got a flooring company in to do 43m2 of luxury vinyl tile in kitchen /open plan living room and polish old parquet floors too

Got the Kef LS50 Meta today and... @Tephnos you were close on the mark. Whilst the overall sound and stereo surround is really excellent, I'm not hearing £600 extra in improvements. Couple that with the deep bass notes like the bank scene in The Dark Knight being just less cinematic I've decided to return them and keep my Q300s. LS50s are smaller too, both cabinet sizes and main driver size so that probably explains why I prefer my old ones. Front firing bass port also makes a noticeable difference.

All in all, similar "sound", just the old speakers sound better because there's more sound to go round. Oh and over £600 cheaper

Diminishing returns 100% in this case!

Nothing else up for grabs, just the MGB. Entered months ago and forgot all about it.

Got home last night from work and while getting changed I had a missed call from an unknown number.

While I was looking at my phone trying to decide who on earth had rung me and had left a message I was about to play back, the phone rang again with the same number.

He then told me who he was and that i had won the mgb and I wasnt to swear as I was live on FB.

Its a classic car company down south, they are bringing it up in a covered trailer this Saturday. It was a raffle with 4444 tickets @ £7 each so as long as they sold enough they will have turned a handsome profit. I think they are trying to cash in on the car raffle craze. this is the second one they have done, the raffled a midget last year but only do a raffle every 3-6 months. New raffle is a subaru impreza

its just been fully restored and had a full paint job.

Can't wait :)

Jammy git! Congrats!

While I love the LS50... they were great for me as I owned them at a time when too much bass would have caused more problems than it solved. Although, for their relative size - their bass is still very impressive.

The Q series are really great... the only step up, given your Kef/NAD pairing preference, is the R series... the main difference you'll find is an improvement is bass control... Q series will feel loose and lacking control after the R, but they're still great... it's one of those things you don't notice til you notice.

Good old HUKD, four bulbs for just over the price of one at usual cost. Takes my Hue bulb count to 18.

Should be able to make good use of them when we renovate our kitchen.

Funny you mention the R series as the R3 was the model I was looking at. A dedicated bass driver will definitely be the way forward I think. They're a bit taller but still stand mount so nothing really needs to change on my near field setup. I will look at them at some point in the future but I think for now I've realised that at anywhere close to this price of the Q300s there's not much that can give a better experience without staying in this family of speaker lineage, so the R3 but they're £1500 so again need to consider whether they are over £1000 better or not.

Realistically I think there's little point in spending even £1500 for the small gains, all things considered of course.

Maybe one day for a dedicated listening room or something but for the desktop setup maybe this is as far as it goes

Funny you mention R series as the R3 was one that I'd noticed today and seems to fit the bill although at £1499 I do wonder about diminishing returns once again. Are they over £1000 better for example as would end up in the same situation. Maybe I need to find a store that has both the Q350 (closest match to mine, pretty much exactly the same but bass ports at the back) and R3 to demo in the same location.

I think that my desktop setup will remain like this for the foreseeable though now though. I've learned quite a lot from this detour. The Q300s punch way above their weight and maybe a worthwhile upgrade would be when I'm prepared to overhaul the whole setup to something new generation one day.
