General Headphone Audio

Just got a Penrose X headset to add to my collection :) Corsair wireless HS70, AKG K702, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250, and now the Penrose X. First impressions are great, bought mainly for the xbox, sound is amazing and comfort wise not as bad as some of the reviews I read, clamping is fine.
 
Decided to plug in my Sennheiser IE80 after a very long time. After listening over Bluetooth for so long its interesting to go back to wired and some quality phones.


The definition and bass control definitely seem better over the soundcore liberty 3 Pros. I love how small they are in the ear. Very warm sounding.

Audeze LCD - GX ? I game on LCD 2's and they drop LOW - soundstage is decent but not as easy to pinpoint foosteps as the DT990s I also have.

:p I gave up on that idea anyways and managed to find the official Sennheiser quilted box instead!

K712, HD595 & HD660s, preference in that order as well. I still kinda prefer the 595's but mainly due to the clamping force of the new 660's, once there broken in i may look to finally retire the hd595's after many years of faithful service.

I've just retired my HD595s after a faithful 14 years of service for the 560s, although I do have the same problem with clamping force!

They are little troopers for sure! i've had my 660's stretched out on a box now for a month or so when not in use and they are much better. also got some new foam pads for the 595's so they may last a while yet! :D
 
Does anyone here have the Sony WH1000 XM3 or XM4 wireless headphones? My HD515's are falling apart (after about 15 years of use) and wanted to replace them with something I could take with me when I go traveling.
 
What's the deal with the enhanced audio setting in Windows 11 then? I've been told it needs to be on for things like Dolby Atmos to work and for EQ. Have some new headphones arriving today so thought I'd ask in here as I know we've got some wizards.

As I don't see any other advanced sound settings than this, but in my usage I leave all these software effects off. So Windows > DAC Amp (USB) > Speakers/Headphones. The DAC/amp does all the processing and provides the truest representation of the original sound in my situation be it games, movies, music etc and has yet to not do a good job.

Btw, if yo have not already then make sure to click Configure on the first window and set the output to full range as by default Windows always uses non-full range mode so you may not be getting the best out of your speakers/headphones otherwise.

Also 24bit 48KHz in the Advanced tab for the cleanest sound and match to the majority of content I listen to.
 
Ah those are the same settings just displayed in the "modern" settings area. I guess MS will sack off the old sound properties way at some point and use only the modern way.

Hmm, yours doesn't appear to have the enhanced audio option though? I've got enhancements disabled in the old sound control panel, and enabled in this new one. Making changes to either doesn't appear to override any settings between the two.

I ask because looking around online, people are saying EQ apps and Atmos won't work with enhanced audio turned off.
 
Ah maybe that is the case, although not sure why the settings aren't in sync as if I change mine in one, it mirrors to the other too
 
Turned all enchancemants off to test them with music. Man these Tygr 300R's are a fun sounding headphone. They actually require quite a bit of power despite being 32ohm.

Jabra wireless of some sort - used for work calls
Sennheiser HD350 - general usage
Sennheiser momentum special edition red & black - when I dont want overear headphones
MPow H7 - old pair, still works
Xiaomi MI True S2 Wireless - back up / spare (was a gift - they keep falling out of my ears even with the largest bud)

Unfortuantely, I won't be buying Sennheisers again. I've been trying to get the momentum's repaired. They are in warranty. Several phone calls and emails and I am still no closer to getting an RMA.

Added both the Sennheiser HD660s and the Sony wf-1000xm4 in December to my collection of Focal Utopia, Focal Stellia, Thieaudio Clairevoyance (and the sony wf-1000xm3 but they're on their way out).

Also added the M11 Plus LTD at some point last year, replacing the M11 Pro DAP. Still have the Focal Arche for desktop use.
