I know it makes sense to deploy more troops to the East, just this all seems like it’s getting very close to boiling over

It would probably mean he loses the war and he has made serious threats about anyone interfering

It's still a huge leap from him retaliating to anyone coming to Ukraines aid vs nuking them and all that goes with that being a no win outcome for anyone, including whatever family he has. He'd have to be quite mad if that's the legacy he wants to leave behind.

Come on now you’ve taken this much effort to launch a personal assault don’t half step it.

You see I couldn’t get two monkeys how I’m perceived on an Internet forum by strangers.

Lets see what you’ve got. Man of your word we’re gonna find out now aren’t we. Hypocrisy runs deep in here.

Calm it down. I suggest you take a break from this thread.

Oh, so the notion of a rag-tag rebel army isn't just confined to Star Wars now... I don't think they'll be engaging in jungle warfare, insurgencies can exist in other climates/terrains. You're aware that Afghanistan is a bit short on jungle too right? You've heard of a place called Chechnya? No jungle there, in fact, they were fighting the Russians too (successfully after the first war) and were only pacified when Putin cut a deal with a Chechen strongman.

There isn't a hard constraint on the climate in which you must fight an insurgency campaign in, though trees are indeed a nice addition, ISIS and the Taliban seemed to cope without them. Urban settings can be rather useful too!

Rather fundamental aspect is the support of the civilian population though.
Vietnam had jungles that gave them an advantage, in Afghan they had mountainous regions that were hard to control and they kicked back in Pakistan till America left, Chechnya also has mountainous regions that helped the defenders

Once again what advantage does Kyiv have to balance the odds? Since this conversation was about arming the population of Kyiv to fight back.

The total civilian death toll from the Iraq War is ~210,000. Including combatants, it comes to ~288,000.

Those are documented figures; no-one thinks that's the full count. The million figure is probably overstated, but figures around half a million seem credible from several estimates but it depends to some extent on what exactly you count towards the total. Wikipedia has links to various estimates.

Considering the speed with which Putin's reached Kiev, I doubt supply will be a problem. He has the numbers, and Ukrainian resistance so far has been pretty weak, so he can just keep rolling forces into Ukraine.

Tanks don't have enough range to carry on fighting without being refuelled, quite apart from everything else needed, whether you stroll in or not you need to keep supply to the frontline or you have big problem. I don't think your claim that resistance has been weak holds water, many sources report that resistance has been much fiercer than Russia expected, and while it's true Russia has a much more powerful military remember that Ukraine's entire army is there defending the country whilst Russia is spread between various other duties so the difference is not as big as your figure suggests.

Thanks rroff for that yt channel, the western news agencies are pretty rubbish none of this coverage on there instead just statements from politicians. Still trying to find more sources of videos and actual movement updates.

It's like the early days of the covid thread. People just posting one liners, no source. Light in facts, heavy with the hype ;)
