They have not done badly.
Got right through to the main city in less than two days, with, in the grand scheme (of troop numbers and equipment numbers they could use) , minute amount of damage to numbers of troops and equipment.

They go in with minimal troops and equipment, if they find a tough area (the airport yesterday) they go in properly with larger numbers and gain the area sucessfully.

They do not want to flatten everything, and kill everyone, that is not the aim here, if they did want to do that, they could easily have, without putting any troops into ukraine at all.

Sounds like you're on your own with that view. Russia have been very poor.

Well it's not difficult to take empty countryside. Easy to get encircled though, it could end up a real mess for Russia.

I wonder if Putin has started to come under real threat and this is an attempt at distraction, its hard to see what he will gain if he doesn't win extremely quickly.
Maybe but maybe it’s Russia propaganda lulling the west into a false sense of security before the impending invasion of several European countries and the inevitable start of WW3.

Yep and all news reports are pro Ukraine, no one actually has a clue whats really going on. Death news reports etc, have to be taken with a pinch of salt. The aim for Western media is to make Russia to look weak - increases morale and the support from the public if we do end up going to war/any constraints put on Russia.

Sounds like the West has drawn up an agreement with Ukraine to providing Electronic Warfare and Cyber assistance against Russia, unsure if they're providing equipment or will be doing the warfare themselves which raises interesting questions though

Let's face it you don't know what the aim is, I'm sure Putin wants to win easily and with little collateral. But it's war and very unpredictable.

The west want him to fall, he has taken a judgement on their resolve. He broadly got away with crimea, but the west gave sadat the impression he was OK to invade Kuwait and that didn't end well.

That was from last nights estimate. It’s one of those numbers that’s going to be very difficult to be accurate with. The losses today sounded big with a lot of equipment losses as well. What that equates to is yet to be seen.
Hard to get anything concrete. West will want to inflate and Russia will want to reduce. Numbers to be taken with a pinch of salt at this point.

There has to be a point when Putin considers we've crossed a line...

Maybe they have been "poor" because they have been limited by what they can and cannot do.

No one on this side of the conflict knows the orders on the ground.

What if it is cause minimal damage and casulaties to get to your target?
Don't destroy too many buildings, don't kill too many civilians, Ukraine is part of Russia, the people are part of Russia.

No one knows.

So no one can say if the Russians are being poor or not.

Compare to US and British forces in gulf war, go and destroy anything and everything, it is not our country, not our people, who cares what you destroy or who you kill, it is all worth it in the end.

This is either going to be over quickly or a long drawn out war of attrition. The next few days will show us, maybe even tomorrow.

One thing events like this show is there are some great humans out there. I'm on the TET Trans Euro Trail (motorbikes) group on FB and so many people offering shelter and money to any Ukrainians in the group who need it, be that they were on a TET ride and now can't get home or are escaping Ukraine. There are members in Poland, Hungary offering to drive to the border to collect family members and house and feed them. It is a group that is there to help riders on the TET with advice on trails or if they break down and need to find a local repair or parts but people are going above and beyond.
